The opening for the National Enduro championship was this past weekend in Sumpter S.C. They ran a 32 mile Jr. event on Saturday with timed sections just like the big boys run. So we threw the CR into the back of the truck and headed over Saturday morning.

Getting ready to start. What are those things on the handlebars for?

[img:uikqyehf]http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e47/1958Larry/DSC01042.jpg[/img:uikqy…]

Now I think I know what those things are for on the handle bars

[img:uikqyehf]http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e47/1958Larry/DSC01056.jpg[/img:uikqy…]

Some of those young kids were really on the gas

[img:uikqyehf]http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e47/1958Larry/DSC01052.jpg[/img:uikqy…]

Just 3 more miles to go with some encouragement from Team KTM.

Off-Road factory riders are really cool and this young man is one of the finest you will ever meet.

[img:uikqyehf]http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e47/1958Larry/DSC01041.jpg[/img:uikqy…]

And he is blazingly fast in the woods

[img:uikqyehf]http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e47/1958Larry/DSC01116.jpg[/img:uikqy…]

Can your kid stand next to a factory bike at a SX or National?

[img:uikqyehf]http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e47/1958Larry/DSC01067.jpg[/img:uikqy…]

There is definitely an old school Euro feel with the Enduro/Off-Road crowd. The same type of vibes that you used to get at big time MX events in the 70's

Hanging out with the KYM factory chase team was a blast on Sunday. Thanks Bo and Russell Bobbitt.

I think the kid really enjoyed it. He started laying out a tight wood section behind our house as soon as we got home yesterday 8)

Nice!
Nothing better than a smiling face under the helmet at the end of the ride.

My son has been thinking of doing some of the woods stuff up here in New England come spring time.
Did you do anything different set up wise for the bike?

No but we are going to have to get some lowend out of it some how. Most of the other 85's were using Fatty pipes.
We are going to replace the (bent from fighting with trees) handle bars with bark busters and gear the bike down.
Will spend some seious time on low end jetting changes and maybe add a flywheel weight.

man I'm jealous as hell, Larry. you're spending quality time with your boys while doing some cool riding, too.

All I've got is a beautiful 5 y.o girl who loves her Daddy ( and a bunch of dance recitals in my future)!!

The Friday's are out there doing, guys. Not sitting around here pissing and moaning about nothing. There's a lesson in there

If you are going to spend more time riding off-road, spend the few extra bux and put a brake-snake on the bike. One small mod can sure prevent a DNF.

[color=#0000FF:3u9e74xg]Good stuff. I've had more fun riding with my son than any other times I've had on a bike, even if it's just a little trail ride or riding minis with him on our home track. Thanks for sharing...//TJ[/color:3u9e74xg]

Cool thanks.
My son runs an RM85 which has some decent low end power and we have gone up on the rear sprocket size too.
Have to look into the jetting.

How does the Brake Snake work?
I get where it goes roughly and all but not how it prevents the problems.

I am going to mill the head and add the flywheel weight and a fatty for my daughters CR85 . Probably go 1-2 teeth on the rear . I probably won't get to do it until my tax return gets in a few weeks.

You dont neccessarily hafta buy one, you can make one also, they just help keep your brake lever from getting snagged on a small root or vine/briar and the brake getting bent bad or broke.

So milling the head helps with low end? thats sounds like a good cheap mod. Do you have to run race gas then?

Does a spark arrester help any with the fatty pipe?
Thanks

Compresion will give the engine more torque . It is more of an issue for us here at a mile high . Depending on how much you shave you might have to run race gas( . I am not sure how a fatty with SA works . If they make a turbine core style that would be the hot ticket I am sure .

We brought a group of about 40 riders down from VA for the event. The kids had a great time on Saturday, several finishing on the podium. As for the big guys, several had some big crashes in the whoops. My butt is just too out of shape so in the last section of whoops I was worn out. We had some great weather and with the transponder scoring it was done ASAP. I still prefer the older enduro format but you can't argue with the attendance numbers. Over 600 registered riders for the Sunday event.

I rode that event in 93 and it kicked my butt bad. Good to have you boys down. I meet some great folks from all over. It will not be my last off-road event for sure.

Those Beta's are starting to get popular out here also. 3-4 guys showed up with them this year to race desert stuff. I guess they have KTM engines? Thanks for the pics!

The Beta's have the old style Racing Four-Stroke engines. Basically, the only KTM bike using it is the quad now...
