How many do we have in here paralyzed? If so what are your injuries, and have you gained anything back since your injury?

Is there an underlying reason you asked this or just random question?

Well, I am one of them. So in general, it is just to talk about it because it is a small club

I was unaware, I'll just put my foot back in my mouth. Sad. How long?

All good, I don't get upset easily. I was injured March 1st of 2020. Bursted my T-10, broke my T-11 and was diagnosed Asia A complete. Although now i have some motor function and feeling coming back every so slightly. Was just curious about everyone else's road and how they are handling things.  I have my good and bad days like everyone else.

I'm never in non moto so I missed this..

C7 complete, April 13 2003.. Haven't got anything back really I did get a little bit of finger strength back, like I can use a mouse like a normy so that's pretty good haha

My hand strength can sometimes back off from time to time and I can't even hold a teaspoon to stir my tea..

But I live alone and am completely independant so that's fairly ideal

I'm so sorry to hear this Zycki11, I also was unaware. It breaks my heart.

I have been hoping and praying since the late 1980's (when a good friend in moto got hurt) that there will be a breakthrough and eventually a cure/fix. I really believe the day will come.

I know of a few members here that have been hurt and it's sad. All great dudes....and I will never forget OC and what he went through.

As for the rest of ya all, I pray that you guys are well and not having to experience and live with to much discomfort.

I had no idea, either. This is the worst part of this sport. A friend from Oklahoma  was paralyzed just goofing around in some trees years ago.

This was about the time David Bailey got hurt.

As Boom said, my heat is broken and I’m praying for all of you.

Maverick, Jemcee, Todd Krieg, Prokawi24

I know there's more in here that I can't think of at the moment.

Has anyone heard from Carl (Pro Kawi) lately? Haven't seen any posts from him in awhile. He gave me some really good career advice a couple years ago.

damn Zycki i had no idea, sorry to hear it

i have a friend that fell out of his Razr while he was in park, he unbuckled his seatbelt to lean out and grab his sunglasses that fell off the dash. he toppled out and now has zero use of his hands. his first year was spent in the hospital, he's home now but has constant health issues. to top it all off his dad that was taking care of him passed away a year ago. rough go for him.

i too have been hoping for a break-through

I'm T5-T6 complete. I haven't regained any feeling, function, or movement below my injury level. When I try to move my legs and toes, I sense a weird tingling sensation traveling down my legs, but nothing happens. It's like the signal gets there but is too weak to make things move. The more I try, the more the signal gets weak.

I have no sensation, but if someone takes a pen and lightly strokes it on the underside of my feet, they'll twitch/kick, and my toes will move on their own.

My spinal cord was pinched just enough to cause paralysis. I will say that I'm grateful that I still have full use of my hands.

I'm still hopeful that science will find a cure.

When I bursted my T10 and broke that T11 it kinked my spinal cord. I was wearing a chest protector (for once) and was in pretty good shape so I think that helped. Recently I have been getting a lot of tingles in my legs the last year. Then my butt got some sensation for vibrations etc. I have had a ton of setbacks but I chose to stay off the spasm blocker to allow my muscles to stay in shape, and  I am fortunate I do not have much nerve pain. I also use PowerDot 2.0 for stimulation. Now my legs can feel tightness in my hamstrings, groins, quads, you name it. I can vaguely contract my thighs.  Nothing really bellow the knees yet. But I have full core muscle control and arms etc. Still chipping away at the stem cell though I think that may kickstart some things

I spoke to Carl a little while back. If I recall correctly, they had bought property and were building a house. I guess that has been time consuming.

I have a friend that was paralyzed at Amateur SX day, San Diego, 1994. I'm not sure of his complete journey but he had a lot of therapy. He says he is an incomplete quad. He got enough back to shuffle on a walker. He lacks fine motor skills but can drive and do basic maintenance on his bike. He showed up at a FPMX race once and asked if he could try a bike. We were kind of blown away. We started a bike, lifted him onto it, steadied him and he took off. He shows up the next year on a clapped out 94 CR250 and wanted to race. We start the bike, put him on it and off he goes. He leans on the dog house with his left elbow and takes off with everybody else. He showed up the next year with a YZ250F and has evolved onto a KTM 350. He gets up on the left side and we help him get his right leg over. With an E-start KTM, a Rekluse and a right hand rear brake he moves along at his own pace. We unload his bike and then load him up when we're done. I give him a lot of shit when he is shuffling since he drags one foot, I tell him to lift his foot, he's leaving a snail trail. I also tell him it's like riding with my kids because when he crashes I have to pick him, dust him off, put him on his bike and get him going again. It freaks people out when he can't get himself up, we've kind of turned it into a little comedy skit. He was a pretty decent local intermediate and a Huntington Beach fireman. I've never heard him complain about his sitch until last week when he said he could have retired a lot better if he hadn't got hurt and that was mostly a comment in passing. I love him like a brother and enjoy riding with him.

Are you for real. Maybe you should be more supportive and STFU. Clearly he knows his condition, this post makes you sound like a complete dickbag. Maybe edit your post or change your outlook of a man that is 50x the person you are? How about both? I pray that you get to experience worse than he has. Jesus, how does this place get any lower than this?

You like to take shit from someone that can walk when you can't, mate? Fuck off. I guess coming back from not being able to walk makes me more sensitive. I had to earn back every scrap of degree of movement at a time. I'm lucky after years and years of work to be able to do most of everything but run.

You’ve never had a dangerous job (military/firefighter/cop) and it shows. If we aren’t busting someone’s balls, it’s because we probably don’t like them.

Bullshit. How close to death have you ever been? Let's flex. On the table dying? how many times? Let's go. How many ambulance rides? How many helicopter rides? Flex.

Yeah I'm fine with it and they do it all the time! Because they know I'm gonna give it as well as I take it.. Cause I don't have a problem with my mind or sense of humour

Like I said I'd much rather that than being so sensitive my mates treat me differently..

Cheers! You have a great attitude and that goes a long way. I didn't and got lucky. I shouldn't feel the need to stand up for others that don't need it and apologize.

I shouldn't feel the need to stand up for...

Haha naah I'm just bustin ya balls bro it's all good haha

Man, as a writer, I seriously reviewed that, had a dipshit moment and decided, he obviously doesn't want to be treated differently so, fuck it, let it go. And here we are. Good on, Ya! I spent time and a bunch of fucking money on your island surfing and buntering. Man, Coolangatta, Angourie and Byron when it was cheap. Sharkie versus shark infested? I got mixed up with some strippers in Brisbane. Fuck that place. Victoria and Bells was my favorite. WA was a bit wild west for me.

To be fair to you, I've been looking for those opportunities in peoples speech to pounce on for 20 years haha so don't feel bad!

Yep strippers in Brisbane are trouble, I was living on the Gold Coast when I had my accident, but I was born and raised and now live on the family farm about 30 mins inland from Byron
