Hey guys, I’m unable to find any reviews on the Fox instinct 2.0 from people who’ve had them for a long period of time. I thought I would add my experience, and would love to hear from others on what they think.
I bought my first pair gently preowned and have about 15 hours in them. I was pleased with the overall feel and the half sizes was a much improved fit for me since I’m a 10 1/2. I found the fit spot on and liked the improved stability over the original instincts. The buckles are very nice and much better than the original design. Unfortunately, since they were not brand new, I can’t review how they are for breaking in but according to Keefer, it’s a pretty quick process.
I did not like all the flex forward and backwards compared to my Alpinestars tech 7s. I do like the Fox holds your ankle in place without any float that is much better than the Tech 7s. That’s the main reason I wanted to switch boots and was not willing to go to the 10s since I’ve never like the booty and longer footbed to accommodate it. Also, I’m not racing supercross and casing 40 foot doubles that may require all that extra protection.
Anyway, back to my review on the Fox boots. While the soles have held up with my stock pegs, the inner rubber material is wearing down pretty quickly. To my knowledge there is no way to replace that part of the boot. As mentioned, they still have good lateral support but feel very soft forward and backwards. It’s great for shifting, but worry about overall protection. Oh, before I forget, if you wash them and have the unfortunate experience of getting the interior wet, it will smell like cat urine. I did find a solution with buying a Peet’s boot dryer with the added ozone deodorizer. That’s a worthwhile investment for any footwear.
I’d like to hear feedback from others who have the new Instincts and their thoughts. I’m at a point where I’m not sure if I want to buy a new pair or try a different brand such as Sidi. I tried Gaerne in the past, but they are just way too stiff and uncomfortable for my feet and Alpinestars just don’t seem to hold up anymore. My 7’s needed new soles with only 20 hours of riding.
I've been wearing Fox Instincts since they came out. I got used to the boot and nothing else feels as comfortable to me. the soles don't hold up if you have anything other than stock footpegs. I get about 100 hours out of the boot before the sole gets past the point of no return.
I have been running the Fox Instincts for close to 10 years. I recently got a pair of the 2.0 for my birthday last year and have been running them for about 9 months. I had a issue with one of my boots 2 weeks in one of the buckle clasps screws had been stripped out in manufacturing so the buckle wanted to fall off. I sent the boots back to my dealer and they were able to send them out to Fox for inspection and repair, I will give Fox and my dealer 5 stars on that service they got them repaired and sent back to me in a timely manner. But since then my right side boot sole seems to be very soft i noticed it had got worn very fast maybe 3 months in I started to wear a hole in the right side boot and now im noticing it is getting pretty bad. I have contacted Fox to see if this is wearing prematurely. My boots always seem to wear here from either the brake pedal of Kickstarter but have never had a pair wear this fast. So we will wait to see what Fox says but otherwise I have been happy with the overall feel of the boot! They feel very sturdy as just as comfy as the previous gen.
Whoa - what did Fox do about that ^^^ hole?
That's a hole! A big one.

That hole looks to be a kick starter hole. When you kick your bike over, your foot just barely grazes the peg and chips away at your boot. Used to happen to all my right boots before e-start, though usually at the arch.
