I think this whole discussion is about, identity where the collision between to similar way of approach identity is obvious. I'm referring to France and USA. As a Swede, I suggest you are born Swedish, the blood makes you a Swede, and it really doesn’t matter how much you hate the government, or the taxes, your neighbours or whatever, you are still a Swede. In US and France this is not the issue. You became French or American when you adapt to their system. A person that accepts the constitution, the flag etc in USA is more likely to be accepted than the same guy doing the same in Sweden. This means problems for the Yank going to France and the other way around. For me as a Swede, or for a German who are “born with our identity” we might be better of going abroad in adapting because we are more “safe” in our identity because we are still Swedes.
For a guy like CP it’s impossible to combine being French and American, because the day he salute America as no 1, he automatically rejects France.
For me, I can say US is a better country, but people in Sweden, including myself will still recognize me as a Swede.
This is why French and Yanks have these issues.
