AMA Rule Changes

I was wondering what you guys think about the new am classifications. Maybe it doesnt concern most of you but I have a 14 yr old son who just got a CRF 250 and now we may have to race with 250 2 strokes. It probably will not change his finishes, but just when his bike and mine have the same air filters and oil filters all of the sudden he may need a 2 stroke to ride the 125 class. I guess I should have been paying more attention before we bought the 07.

Oh yeah Im a newbie here, but I float around a lot of other boards. Im still looking for some form of intelligence.

part of me wants these to be passed, the other doesnt. I think it would be great for ppl to switch back to two strokes, i think the racing was way better, and you had to be a better rider to go fast, but on the other hand, if these pass, riders may still ride fourstrokes, and the manufacturers could make fourstrokes for the 125cc class(like the honda crf150r the size of a cr12) so then we would be right back where we started just on slower bikes with more classes(because of the open).

Why can't he just race the 250F in the 250 class?

You realize this changes very little.
It takes the 125's out and gives them their own class
250's all run together
and we have an Open/450 class

Your rider will still be racing the same people on essentially the same bikes.

I'm an old fat slow guy, with a 125 2 choker i hope the rules pass, i can have some fun racing with out having to buy a 6000.00 four stroke, i will just get smoked buy 12 year olds on supermini's but at least i will have a more competive class to race in. just my 2 cents "ride till you die!!!"

I agree with Dave.

all 250cc in one class
250cc and up in a open class.

250s and 250Fs have been together for the Lorreta Lynn Qualifiers for this year, there's no approval needed. It's happening. They've been racing like that in SoCal at local events too, either that or people are just doing it and nobody is noticing... besides the racers.

I had already bought an '08 450 before I knew this, and now I'm kicking myself. I can't even get rid of my '07 450 so there's no way I'd bend over to get rid of both of them. Once the '08 gets hammered I'll switch.

As truthful as you may or may not feel it is, MXA did a shootout between an RMZ450, RMZ250 and RM250. I believe every riders lap times were similar on the 250/250F, some were even quicker on the 250Fs. EVERYONE was more consistent on the F's, if I remember correctly, and everyone was faster on the 450.

You have 250cc's, they have 250cc's.

You are on the "new, better" technology.

They will be on the "old, outdated" technology.
