Does anyone know what Ron Turner is doing now...is he involved in racing at all. He was from So Cal. He rode for Cagiva for a short time in the 80's. Honda before that...winningest rider in CA for some time...does that ring a bell? know who i'm talking about?
Just curious...

When I had the pleasure of taking a 3 day lesson from him , I was amazed and am to this day of how smooth he was. I also got to watch him race against Johnny O at a local track back then and gained huge respect watching him go around the O'Show like he was standing still. Very cool guy. I have some photos of when I was out in CA with him and if I can dig them up I"ll post them...the track he took me to was on the side of a mountain:all natural: amazingly rough...he rode it like it was asphault...

Thanks for the info guys...

I used to see Ron at least twice back in the 80'

He was the King of Saddleback & carslbad back then on those Suzuki's.

He was always friendly & smiling!

Ron rode a few OTHG races a few years ago. He was a great guy back in the day and still is today.

He brings up a good question. I think he had the largest gap between how fast he looked in the pits and how fast he was on the track. What I mean is, if you see him walking around the pits, you think he rode the Beg. class or maybe the Novice class.

Ron Lechein, David Bailey, Rick Johnson, etc. looked like Pros walking in the pits.

Ron Turner sure did not, but, once on the track he could friggin' fly!

I remember those glasses...damn I gotta find my old photos and do some scanning...I have some great shots with him with those very glasses...I also have some shots of Ron and a guy named 'Scott Summers'?? not sure of name but I think that is it...a desert racer back then or something to that effect. He was an incredible rider as well.

I rode alot of Saturday Saddleback races. Nobody could keep up with Turner at Saddleback. Best part was that he NEVER took his feet off the pegs. He would rail corners, feet up...

What happend to Juan Beneviedes? He was fast on those Can Ams.

Juan Benevidez! That's a good one - I remember him out at the 'Dunes in So. Calif. in the '70s on Can-Ams...dude was crazy fast. Wild like Ron Hornaday, but even faster.

When I picture Ron Turner, I see a rider in all Suzuki yellow gear, horn-rimmed black glasses with an Electro helmet, on a FMF RM370 Suzuki at the Friday night ACE races at Indian Dunes (John Grout - oh, yeah) in the summer - dang, I think I'm gong to cry now...LOL
