I just wanted to let everybody know that the AMA Race Director Kevin Crowther was true to his word and gave me a call here in Oz to have a chat about the Livewire.

He explained to me that they are in the process of upgrading the system and are aware that occasionally there are problems. Last weeks problem in the 450 main was due to some fans cutting the cable that was running through the stands, some fans huh!

I also brought up that I thought with the races being run in the stadiums that all the IT gear would be the newest technology and I couldn’t understand why there was still problems, when Kevin mentioned for example last week that the IT equipment at Qualcomm is in fact a bit antiquated and as not up to date as you would think.

So just hang in there and as the upgrade continues hopefully we won’t have another San Diego 450 main.

I just wanted to thank Kevin for taking the time to follow up on the issue.

And remember everybody reads these boards, believe it or not, so rather than just bitching, be constructive, it is more productive.

Whitey...good stuff and thanks for sharing.

I've gotten flack in the past when I've said everyone reads the boards but this is yet another example.

I just read your thread at Motonews too Rock. Kevin did mention all what you said over there amongst other things too, maybe i should have added a bit more.

I am guessing he may have an acheing ear after this week, but at least they are trying to do something about it.

mmm ,, so if we did not have scoring, they did`nt have it. Guess they still use people or manual scoring as a back up?
All I recieved was the hot lap on the 450`s. Bet that made them scramble.

They collected the information but didn't have a link from the stadium to the truck thanks to the idiots who cut the cable.

They also prioritise the importance of who gets the info.

1st is the scorers/timekeepers for obvious reasons.

2nd is the TV people for the broadcast.

3rd is the Internet audience, which as Rock said is linked to the AMA truck outside by cable, but at San Diego some tossers cut it.

every race I've been to in recent memory, MX and SX, has had people physically jotting down riders as they cross the line each lap in addition to the electronic scoring. It's always redundant.
