A Hundred Grand into an SX bike, that almost seems akin to the 1980's Pentagon budget. I know some stuff has to be pricey, but how the hell do they get a hundred grand into them things, im thinking 25% parts and 75% labor? lol,wtf?

Most of it is in bundles of large bills stuffed into the airbox during sound testing. Wink

Do you have any idea the work involved in creating a one off part? Do you have any concept of what they spend on suspension componets alone? It is absolutely ridiculous the amount of time and money they put into those bikes. You can see where all the money goes if you look hard enough.

They have $50k in just Suspension, so a $100 is prolly a little under budget. I get you JGR is pushing a $150k in there bikes..

Forks: $20-30K (depening on brand)
Shock: $10-20K (depening on brand)
Clamps: $1-3K
Wheels: $1-3K (each)
Linkage: $1-3K
Ti kit: $2-3K
Engine: $15-??????????????K

Thats a decent start. You get the idea of where it comes to be $100K. Actually making a list would take too long.

And by the way, that is just 1 bike without spares.

Yeah, the 'time' part. That's the most expensive. They figure like $500 an hour. Buying a piece of billet aluminum isnt that much. But then they say,' we had to make a machine to do it right', so there's 10k for that too. It's like getting your suspension revalved, hundreds right? But the actual valving costs pennies in parts. They're just washers. Or maybe even a billet valve that's $20 bucks. But that's their cost, they charge you so much more to make it worth it for them to do it. I can put a new crank in my kids bike for $100(and that's retail), but I would charge someone else at least $150 just for parts, then another $200 for labor. So I could say I got $350 in that bike just on the crank! See how it works?

I once heard that Mcgrath's 96 cr250 cost 100k. That was 13 years ago. I can't imagine what one costs these days.

Its probably difficult to put a price tag on the race bikes because those parts are likely CNC machined. So they have X dollars in the equipment, engineers, machine programers and test riders to develop better parts...... etc. The cost of materials would be almost nothing in the big picture.

There was a TWMX article about RG3 suspension upgrades, and the top of the line stuff was $7500. That system was available to the public. Im also sure those drilled out bolts and washers are not cheap.

Most of the parts are unobtainable to the regular person or rider. So this would make the bikes priceless. The unobtainable part is the technology and not necessarily the parts themselves.

they are including the labor inwhich it takes to make these parts out of material you'll never see the light of day, go pay NASA to build you a bike, understand now......

A top of the line Road Bicycle can cost $25,000 and those are the ones for the general public, not the "Team Bikes".
