I ended up with a 2005 250f and 250x for $700 so I sold the 250x for a few bucks after I got some parts off it and I'm diving into a mildly extensive build on the 250r. Both bikes were blown up. My project specifically needed a new piston, jug, head, valves but everything else on the bike was surprisingly in OK condition. Here's the start of it. Let me know if ya'll have any tips on this year bike. I had an 05 450 through college so I'm mildly familiar with the platform and the bike.
Also feel free to enjoy the glory that is my main chick, the 16' 350xcf. Best bike on the planet.

One thing I can say is I had an 07 250r and that bike was good. Only issue it had were the titanium valves of that time were in constant need of adjusting. I later on went to stainless steel valves and never had to adjust them for two years. Also the hotcams and a high comp piston from cp pistons really woke up the power for not a lot of money.
You wanted the 250X frame.. and the 250R motor. The X frame turned better and had a much better ride feel. Then you want a 2008 head and cam. The porting from 2004, 2005, etc.. changed. The 2008 had the best port shape stock.. and the cam was much... much better then the earlier years.
Thanks for the tips ya'll. I screwed up the photo format earlier. Here's a photo of how it looks so far.
Needed a complete head rebuild.

My first 250f after many years on 250 smokers was a 05. I had a lot of fun with that bike. I think it was one of the best handling bikes I’ve owned. I think I still have a manual and a shim kit around here somewhere. Btw your front brake hose is on the wrong side of the fork tube.
Thanks for the heads up! I had an 05 crf450 in college, they are fun.
Pretty much done y’all
How does it run?
