Jett first rookie to win A1??

1/7/2024 9:41am

People on Instagram are losing their shit over this. It was his first AMA 450 sx start. He won it. SMX is SMX. Look he raced a whole outdoor 450 season, he did the SMX races, so he's pretty seasoned. But he stat is first AMA sx start. The next decade is going to be pretty rough if you dislike this kid so much. "It's boring!" We survived RC, we can survive this lol

The fact is the recent bastardization of the Championships have made many of the old records, and comparisons to, ridiculous at best.

Triple Crown race
Playoff Races
Monster Energy Cup races
SuperDuperMotoCrossed Championship races

I'm aware this was Jett's 'first Supercross race in the 450 class' but he's also the 'defending SuperMotoCross World Champion'. I think Jett is a fantastic talent, and have no animosity towards him. What I dislike is boardroom marketing mumbo jumbo, and that's coming from someone who spent a lot of time in boardrooms making up marketing mumbojumbo.

Jett won that race last night, and looked great, but calling him a "450 rookie" is a bit insane, and disingenuous, considering he's the highly touted defending 450 SMX World Champion (and 450MX, but yes yes that's motocross not sx). That's the facts. The "450 SX Rookie" thing is baseball stat semantics.

From Supercrosslive.com: "On the heels of an impressive Rookie of the Year campaign, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan, 17, captured the 250cc World Championship while Australian, Team Honda HRC athlete Jett Lawrence, 20, became the first-ever 450cc World Champion, which capped off his historic rookie season in the premier division."

To be historically correct

Pierre Karsmakers won the first Supercross race in a stadium on March 10 1974, at Daytona Beach

The 1972, and 73' stadium events were not considered Supercross races, as the term "Supercross" had not yet been coined

Karsmakers was not a rookie motocross rider either

MXGP champions are not rookies at MX, but clearly SX is a different sport

For people who cant comprehend. Its like RJ going to the 450's next year and winning A1.

Yes its the start to his rookie season but RJ lined up at Daytona last year. so technically its not his debut race.

all I know is that it's about to be a very boring decade if this kid can keep it on 2 wheels.

A lot of people seem butthurt about this young Aussie starting out on his domination of American MX/SX.

Just be happy for the kid. Otherwise the next 5-10 years are going to be pretty frustrating for you. He's a special talent for sure. If he stays healthy he's going to break a lot more records.
