Okay, probably a dumb question. But I don't have much experience with this and I haven't found anything real clear online yet. I want to get a bicycle from a guy out of my area. He would ship. Seems pretty straight up. But how can I pay him and have protection in case the item doesn't show up or isn't as described? It's just private to private. Not through eBay or anything. Thanks in advance if any of you have experience with this kind of thing. I always just buy from someone local cash in person, but it's a kids bike that is hard to find used.

Under "goods and services".
I've had good luck on here just doing friends and family, but I have been burned once on another site by trusting the seller. You could do 'goods and services' through paypal, venmo, etc. But there is a transaction fee and in this great country, the IRS is watching.
Use PayPal, and pay it under goods and services. That way you're covered. The seller will likely want it under friends and family, but if you do it that way and it's a scam you have no protection.
