Even if you do tow with the single rear wheel, you won't give up that much to the dually. The dually will be a tad bit more stable, but the 350 single rear wheel will be enough for what you need it for I'm sure.
SRW unless you want a kidney transplant. If you do tow, just add air bags. Easy mod.
Bit of an exaggeration. I have a 350 DRW, a good friend has a 350 SRW. Both built out as moto vans. The ride comfort isn't that much different. Mine is certainly stiffer when empty, but not "need a kidney transplant" stiff. The benefits of a DRW include higher towing capacity and less body roll when driving in the wind. It really comes down to what you plan to pull behind the van, if anything. I have a 25 foot travel trailer that has a GVW of about 5500 lbs. My buddy pulls a 21 footer that is only 3500ish lbs GVW. His camper works great for him and his son, I needed a bit more room for my girlfriend and the kids - if they want to go. I was originally looking for a SRW but got too good of a deal on the DRW to pass up. Overall no regrets, there are plusses and minuses to both, just depends on what you want to pull with it.

Yes, it was, but you get the point, she’s stiff. I have a 250 Transit with bags in the rear. They work well.
Awesome thank you!
Take a look at how the hitch receiver bolts to the Transit. The rearward mounts are nut plates in some very thin metal so have to be careful with tongue weight. The van itself drives great. Best mileage i ever got with a van with a consistent 16-17 mpg. May not seem great to some but i have had MANY vans and that is the best i have ever had a van get.
I have a 2019 Transit 350 dually that we have put a little over 180,000 miles on. After living with it I see no reason not to go DRW other than you have to buy two more tires when it’s time. I don’t believe it rides stuff at all, it certainly rides nicer than my wife’s new f-250. I guess it depends what kind of vehicles your used to.
I haven’t driven a SRW of the same size, but my son drove his friends van home when he got hurt. He said the SRW was definitely not as stable as our van. As annoying as these tall vans are to drive in the wind I’m happy to get all the stability I can.
I’ve been so happy with our van that I have another DRW Transit on order.
My daily driver is an F350 diesel so ride on dually shouldn’t bother me. Thanks for the info!
The answer depends on how big your mullet is. Is it Joe Dirt or Chase Sexton sized?
Dual wheel for sure
I’ve had both. A 2020 extended high roof transit single rear. At 70mph or more it felt sketchy. Then got a 2023 extended high roof transit dually. So much more stable. Night and day difference. Towed so good we used it this year to tow about 8,500 pound toy hauler 750 miles to Loretta’s instead of our diesel 2500 truck.
messed up and sold it couple months ago. Picking up a dually sprinter tomorrow!
100% agree!
Bought a 2019 Sprinter 4x4 SRW tall roof. Hell on wheels in a wind or behind a semi. 3.0 diesel. 17-18 mpg.
Replaced it with a 2023 Transit crew AWD Ecoboost 350HD DRW extended tall roof. I'll have a DRW from here on out.
16-17 mpg. Excellent ride. Great visibility. Wife appreciates the lower entry height. No clearance problems so far when off-road and I've had it on some questionable ground. OEM tires suck.
The DRW handles cross winds SOOO much better. We have had both and drove many.
If it's personally used, a dually is going to give you the best ride quality if you build out interior and tow with it. if you're going to also use it for a small business, if you have one and want to also use it for that and write it off, call your insurance company and see what the rate difference is between a SRW and a DRW, as sometimes they can be wildly different (I had a SRW f350 and a DRW f350 that were the same year at the same time once and the dually was almost twice as much to insure when we used them for trackside support. Once an employee is insured to drive a company vehicle, everything seems to go to about the same rate then and this becomes a moot point).
Awesome guys! Seems like the DRW is the way to go. Now to find one in AWD lol.
I have a SRW 350 high roof and it is a *little* sketchy in the wind. It has 66K on it and I bought it in January of 21. Built out as a motovan. I love it! For me, the extra width inside was worth not getting the DRW. My only regret was not buying one sooner.
AWDs must be unicorns in DRW. It’s also very hard to find a DRW right now. I will be diligent on my search. If anyone has one for sale let me know. Thanks.
