I was able to get of the original RAL code used by the Yamaha factory teams circa 97-01. Ultramarine blue powdercoat, done here by CeramX. Looks great up close!
Works Connection glide plate with the welded frame tabs.
I used titanium pegs from a later YZF as the shape is almost exactly like the factory pegs used in 1998.
I sourced the correct fitment clamps from various places in america and were all random colours. I stripped and polished them all (and fettled out a few light scratches here and there) and had them all clear anodised. Docwob Ti bolts and headstock nut. All new bearings/seals.
I sent the original radiators to David Gledhill (Fabytech - has a facebook page) who restores OEM radiators (i’ll never use the chinese shite). He cuts out the cores and reuses the sides and end tanks, has new cores made up to the right sizes and welds them together. He’s done quite a few for me over the years and his work is top notch.
Engine in! Rads on. Refurbed kickstart.
Located the correct blue NGK plug cap that the team used.
Subframe and airbox assembled. I had the steel parts (including carb clamps) chem blacked. Wiring loom cleaned and reinstalled. New Venhill clutch and throttle cable, plus new OEM carb overflow hoses.

Lots of fantastic work happening here. Thumbs up!
Killer as always!!
Can you share the RAL code for the frame, and where to get the plugs for the holes in the frame?
Thanks!
RAL 5002 Ultramarine blue. Plugs are OEM
Finding an original black factory perch/lever was near impossible (and they were pretty ugly!), so went with an all black Works Connection setup, as well as an original old style rubber cover that they used to use for a more sleek look.
A little carbon! In the details…
Incredible attention to detail, restored to perfection. My respects mate, rarely I saw a builds like this. It's a work of art
Getting somewhere now…
These correct shapes front plates are really rare nowadays, the UFO one is based on the older 1993 shape front plate. Acerbis front hose guide.
Front disc guard. Brakes bled.
Suspension fully rebuilt. Billet hose clamp anodised black as per the original Dowd bike.
Gorgeous build.
Appreciate it, thanks!
Top notch. Had to say it again mate!

How’d you get the clutch cover so clean?
A good mix of processes including filing, sanding, vapour blast, scotchbrite. Believe it or not, there's a few hours of elbow grease in that clutch cover to get it looking like that.
Insanely nice build. It’s been a pleasure to follow along
Appreciate it! It's now finished, fired up 2nd kick and sounds crisp! I'll get some more pics up of the last few detailed bits then next week post some full bike photos once i've sorted some good shots.
Always wanted to do a bike with these ‘team-issue’ only PC silencers. Strangely the kawi’s never used them but YZ and RM factory bikes had the extra support welded to the stinger tip. I got some photos and measurments of an original one so I could replicate it.
Firstly I shortened the body to corrext length, fabbed up the bracket based on some cardboard bits then had it Tig welded up. New decal to finish it off!
I bought a 2000 YZ125 in boxes a few weeks ago to race our local Pre-2000s class. This is definitely inspiring me!
Factory bikes are always newer than a new bike. And you are doing well too!
Stunning bike!
May I ask what jetting you run? I struggle with my 97.
Tip of the hat to you sir...stunning
Currently stock. PC recommends stock too, except 1.5 turns out on Mixture screw instead of 2.0, and 4th clip not 2nd on needle, so that will be a starting point.
Thank you!
