What puzzles me is that there were no OZ Club teams.

It's always cost a shedload to go to the ISDE. Many did it on their own bat for many years.

I'm completely out of the loop with regards to the ISDE Teams and participation these days, but I find it strange that  there were no Aussies other than the Women's Team. Perhaps there were, and I've just not looked hard enough.

The Swedes, from what I've read (and what was written, could surely been wrong), could still have won the Junior, even with one of them not finishing the moto. Although, I think it would require the young fellow to get his bike across the finish line, for just the one lap, but I've also seen written that  the size of the jumps / ground, meant he couldn't do so himself. Such a bummer for them.

I've also read that some 'shenanigans' got one class leader the win. Being the ISDE, well, it wouldn't be the only shenanigan that happened. It's long been part of it all. Whistling

I'm on Nate Ferderer's email list, and he explained the what the Swedes did wrong...and alluded to the shenanigans by the club team overall winner (Toth, I believe)...he posts here, he can elaborate

From his email:

"I feel I rode to my limit, but it’s still difficult to accept my limit wasn’t as high as it normally is. I finished with a silver medal, missing out on gold medal by 30 seconds! Josh Toth set a really high pace to finish on gold (within 10% of his time), and my riding wasn’t my best. However, I can take a small moral victory knowing Josh skipped a section of transfer trail on day 1 while having heat stroke, relied on IVs to stay hydrated, and ran out of gas and had to swap bikes to stay in the race – enough to deserve a DNF. These are sneaky trophy team antics Josh learned over the years that he brought down to the club level – don’t get my wrong he rode great, but there is a reason trophy is trophy and club is club."

Josh didn't do anything wrong per the rules, and clearly was the fastest club rider all week, he won 27 of 31 tests. Just voicing my opinion and giving a little insight of the rumors around the pits for my newsletter followers (thanks for reading). Someone did protest for the fuel incident and nothing came of it. The one thing I do have a problem with is getting IVs, legal per the rules but my opinion it should be like motocross where you can't get IVs between motos. I assure you Josh wasn't the only one who received an IV after day 1, it was brutal!

You can skip transfer sections and still be within the rules?

There are remote checkpoints with punch cards in the transfer sections. As long as you hit all the remote checkpoints it's pretty difficult to enforce everyone staying on the transfer trail. It's more loose than a typical harescramble where you need to stay within X feet of the arrows. The remote check was early in that section, so it certainly would have been possible to take a more direct route back to the pits. There were very few roads in that section, mostly open desert so I don't know how much easier of a path he could have taken. I have no proof he actually did, just something I heard so take that for what it is, a rumor.

Well if the "customized course" facts are true, he clearly cheated...

The club teams aren't under that much scrutiny anyways...
