Hey fellas-
I posted this in the Vital MTB forum too, but I figured some of you over here might be interested.

I was recently able to check off a "bucket list" MTB ride in Moab, UT: The Whole Enchilada. For those who don't know about it, it's a 27-mile ride with a 5-mile cruise back to your car at the end. They shuttle you from the town of Moab up to the Burro Pass trailhead in the La Sal mountains, and you ride back down. It's not all downhill, but there's about a 7,500 foot loss in elevation over the 27 miles. The environment changes from pine tree forests down to desert slickrock, with everything in between. (Every ecosystem you can imagine, hence "The Whole Enchilada.")

Check out the pics. This was all on one ride. It took us 4 hours and 45 minutes of riding, but we spent probably six and a half because we rested and took photos. The most fun I think I've ever had on a bicycle!

Is “WE” pronounced “Wheeeeee!”?

Great pics!  I was in Moab last week, but not mountain biking.   Plan to explore the area next year and WE is on the list.

Yes, yes it is. Cool

For those planning on riding it, definitely go do it. The beauty alone is worth the ride. I've been on "better" MTB trails, but never an epic route like this one.

Moab riding is super unique, and the views and vistas are unmatched.

It is tough riding though. Rocks to hop up onto, ledges to drop off, and every kind of trail obstacles you can find. You struggle to find even moments along the trail to “rest”.

Do your physical preparation BEFORE you go there, because you will struggle to “ride yourself into shape” while you are there.

There is no rest for the wicked! It is a challenge, and even trails with 7,000 feet of elevation loss are still a full-body workout.

Took this a while ago from up on the shaded face of the rectory behind Castleton tower in your second from last pic. Whole Enchilada ridgeline from the heart of castle valley. Moab area is so cool because just about anywhere you look there's someone you can't see having the time of their life on some kind of adventure. Whole Enchilada is on my bucket list next time I get out there with a bike.

Agree 100%!  I did this a couple of years ago and was surprised that even though it is a descent you still have almost 2k feet elevation gain. Be prepared physically and mechanically. Spare parts, food, and enough water. It is my most epic ride experience!
