tech 8 or sg-12 ?

I have the option to either get tech 8 boots or the sg-12's not only do i want the best boot for protection but also i want the one that will last me the longest. Guys got any opinions?

Thats not even a close comparison..... SG12's over anything else made... PERIOD. never mind tech 8's

I got the 10's this year. Protection? Excellent. Feel? Not so good. Still having trouble adjusting to shifting gears.

Although I expect these to last for a very long time, when I get some cash I'm very tempted to try the Sidi's.

Alpinestars use to be good until they quit making them in Italy to cut costs. The Gaerne's are still made in Italy and they last much longer.

Do the soles hold up better when compared to alpinestars? T10s are much better than the 8s for longevity but I can't fork out $600 for boots. Just can't do it. The 10s I have now were my first and last that I pay for ( unless I can find them heavily discounted!)

I understand about the pricing issues with Gaerne, they are very expensive. I would suspect they hold up better cause they still use the thick bottom leather or whatever it is sole wereas Astars use the replaceable rubber middle section. The way I look at is, ill spend the money to stay out of the doctors office.

AG12a don't even compare, they are handsdown the best boot on the market. The soles last 6 times longer then Alpinstars do to. I used to go through 2-3 pairs of Alpinstars a year. I bought a pair on SG12s this spring and there still like new the soles are finally just starting to show a little wear.

A stars are crap, the sole will last 1 month if you ride them hard and often. I had the SG10 and lasted over a year ( and they are still good) but I got the SG12, honestly the best boots out there.

you can be better of with SG10's than any A star... comfort, protection and durability..

SG 12's are cool, but I still like the fit and feel of the tech 8's. I get a solid 3 years out of mine no problem. Well over 150 hours in the woods this year alone. And a boat load of time at the track. Will be wearing them again next season.

The main difference it that the SIDI is easier to shift with oh and the sole is screwed on so if you ever need to replace it its a snap! The SG12's are very stiff in comparison even thought they are hinged like the SIDI.

The tech 8's are incredibly stiff but offer great protection if you can get past not being able to shift.

That stiffness in the SG12 is ankle protection.

Never wore the sg's so I can't say on that, but I really like my tech 8's. The other guys are right though, the are pretty stiff and take a while to break in. When they finally break in, the are real nice. The only complaint I would have is the buckle on top of your foot is backwards to the others and I have had that catch on something a couple times during races and pop open. The a-stars customer service is very good. I had a buckle issue with my last pair and called them. They sent me out new buckles at no cost to me and no questions asked.

I just got some sg-10s and they are the best boots ive ever had. Ive had apl. 8s too. They were good as well but i still feel more comfortable in the sg-10. I wanted sg-12s but im on a budget...

that's what I have...SG10's...I'm still trying to find the shifter.

Although they are pricey, they are great protection. But, the challenge of finding the shifter is making me think hard about getting a pair of Sidi's.

Alpinestars used to make great boots. Not any more. I bought a pair of SG10’s last year. They are super comfy, super strong and very well made. The bottom part of the boots is so rigid that it does affect your ability to feel the shift lever, but I have not had a problem shifting.

Another Sidi wearer and if they quit making boots I would wear the SG12. I will be getting some new crossfires to replace my Force boots if they ever wear out.

Comfort is it for me and that is the SG12's or 10's. Not sure whats going on at A Star but I don't like thier boots at all anymore. Sidi's are nice boots but overall I like the Gaerne's better. I still think the SG10's are the best buy in boots.

I currently have SG10s and tech8s and the 8s are more comfortable my opinion. I have slightly better feel for the shifter and brake with the 8s. The soles on the 8s are very soft but with new soles ($85), I personally like the 8s better. IMO the SGs somehow have a clunkier feel when compared side by side to the 8s.


The Sidi crossfires will be the next boot I buy as everyone says the the break in is nill and the way every piece of the boot can be replaced easily (including the sole) is a big plus.
