To the extent Yamaha is worried about this incident costing them sales, don't ya think that about 99% of that concern is their bike blowing up for all to see? Not being pissed at the bike after that would just be weird and disingenuous. You don't go around acting like that's normal and no big deal unless you want people to think it's normal and no big deal to them that the bike takes a shit.

Yes, but 1% of the concern is what their poster child/factory racer thinks of it. The reason they pay factory racers is because at some time, somewhere, some schmuck is going to say, "well, if it's good enough for Haiden Deegan, it's good enough for me," and go buy one.
Haiden's actions implied that it wasn't in fact, good enough for him, even if that's not what he intended. It's already bad enough that the bike broke; Yamaha doesn't need their very own paid professional to act like he's sick and tired of this POS keeping him from getting laid or something.

Sales or marketing people, help me out here: when trying to sell products, do you ever, under any circumstances whatsoever, want to imply that your product is anything less then the very equivalent of the Holy Grail? Or do you want to paint it in the best possible light at each and every opportunity?

One last point and then I'll shut up in this thread:

I saw Chad Reed's bike lock the transmission up at the San Diego Supercross one year. (Coincidentally, it was a Yamaha.) It lurched and nearly threw him over the bars, then came to a skidding stop right in front of my section.

He acted more like what a factory team would hope for. Instead of blaming the bike or melting down in plain view of paying customers, he helped the techs gently load it in the back of a Mule, then smiled and waved at the crowd while making the universal facial expression that says, "Oh well, it's probably nothing."

Reed's actions imply that this never happens, there must be some small problem with an esoteric works part that only he and 2 other people on planet Earth could possibly have broken, and that you, dear customer, will be perfectly fine and happy with your purchase of a YZ250. In fact, why don't you go down to your friendly neighborhood Yamaha dealer tomorrow morning and look at one? THAT is one of the things they pay riders for.

Passion and heart.   Kids got it in spades.   I got no problem with what he did....kid was in the title hunt...totally understandable. It'd be different if he was a 20th place non-contender.

I love the audio....the drunk "fan" yelling on the side of the track calling Deegan a "baby".    Many MX/SX "fans" of this sport are fitting for the thread title: "Not a great look".

Passion and heart are one thing but to act like a spoilt entitled brat is another.  Given his massive following on you tube with younger kids etc its not a great look to be kicking your bike over and hitting your helmet into the ground when things don't go your way.

** And he was only in the title hunt at that point due to Hunter having a DNF with a similar situation who handled it like a professional should
