The condenser on my 2018 YZ450F fell off when riding yesterday and I just noticed it while washing the bike. This happened on my other 2018 as well but I was able to find a cheap used replacement.

Unfortunately I can't find any used condensers on ebay or 2018+ models but there are plenty for 2014-2017 450's. The used ones are $15-$30 and a new one is $100 so I'm trying to save some cash here.

Does anyone know if the 2017 condenser will work fine? The part numbers are slightly different and I am assuming there is a reason but I don't know much when it comes to electrical stuff.

2018 part number:
1DX-81965-10-00

2017 part number:
1SL-81965-00-00

they are probably the same with some minor difference like a different type of connector or different wire length

After doing more research on what I condenser does, I decided the older one would work. But then I realized the connecter from the one that fell off was still in my bike so I pulled it out and could tell from the pictures that it was shaped slightly different from the previous models.

So I ended up just biting the bullet and ordering a new one. Thankfully it looks like Yamaha rerouted these parts on the 2020 so they won’t mysteriously vanish like they have been on my 2018’s.

Is the condenser that black shock bladder looking thing that’s under the seat? My buddies fell off his 18 last weekend and his bike started acting like it was in gear when it was in neutral. We figured it was in limp mode or something. Did yours run different without it?

Yep that’s it. Actually my bike runs fine without it. I know exactly when it happened though because the bike sputtered and stalled out of nowhere and then fired right back up and I continued my moto. But I didn’t realize mine had fallen off and caused the stalling until I was washing the bike the next day.

I know old thread , but I just encountered this problem. Riding on track- just died on a straight(thankfully), pushed it back with a wtf. Checked fuse- yes burned out, why? Didn’t know but bike started up after replacing. Washing it at home I noticed 2 wires - a brown and a black dangling next to exhaust- yes found my short. But where do they go? Didn’t seem necessary, but riding my bike following weekend with wires taped, bike seemed to have increased engine braking. Elsewhere on this site someone posted wire diagram from service manual for this year- only place a black and brown wire meet up is the condenser under battery tray. Mine of course bracket only. I ordered part- 112$, will follow up if engine braking due to the part or in my head. Some of us keep our bikes 5 years 😝. My only other problem was a starter switch- wire hung up and broke- inside cover. Bike new in 19, 150 hours- haven’t had to touch a spoke on it- great bike.
