doublezero: I did not see that series on your site, maybe I am just missing it.

Here is a question I wondered about the south florida series. why compete again the fl winter ams? I would wait until they are finished then have a series between then and gold cup.

Florida is different

North doesn't go south and south rarely goes north

Been that way for decades.

The demarcation line is roughly Lake Okeechobee

Racers living in North/Central Florida rarely go to tracks in the South (Okeechobee and Seminole)

Racers in the South have always been forced to drive hours and spend multiples more than those in the north to race Winter-Am and Gold Cup, because races in those series are rarely if ever awarded to tracks in the South, and when they have been, the turn out for the riders North of the Lake is weak....so it's still a South race.

People don't realize how big Florida is. To drive from Miami/Fort Lauderdale to say Gainesvile/Reddick/Ocala is 4-5 hours or more depending on what you're driving or towing.

Point is, even if there is overlap between series', it really doesn't make too much difference because north and south don't typically intermingle anyway. There's also usually a large difference in speed between north and south, so only the fastest from the south race the northern series' and that won't change, racers go where they're the most competitive

(I won't even discuss the politics)

I have a large banner on the slide show on the homepage linking to the website for the series...

For years, maybe 10 or so, we traveled to races EVERY weekend. We followed the Gold Cup, Winter Am's, Florida Series, FTR etc... Most of the time we DID travel 4 - 5 hours to a race, because we live in Naples (way south). Packed up Thursday and Friday after work, usually left late on Friday night, and then spent Saturday practicing and Sunday racing. We would get home most of the time well after 11:00 on a Sunday night. Sometimes much later. Get up Monday AM and go to work and school. It was fun, but very tiring and expensive. In addition we chased Loretta's, Ponca City etc. Seriously it was every weekend, but we loved it.

We would not change anything. Now that my son is 18 and going on to college after he graduates, we tend to stay closer to home now. In today's economy, most folks simply can't afford to travel that far and either stay in a hotel, or purchase a motorhome to be there on race day. So you stay closer so you can drive and not worry about spending money on gas and where you are going to sleep on Saturday night.

I think it is great that we have a lot of choices.

There is a lot of truth in what Dave just posted!! We live just south of Tallahassee, and do mostly the FTR Hare Scramble series, and it gets EXPENSIVE. You see a lot of the guys from Okeechobbe-south at the southern races, and the Central Florida guys at the central-north races. Not very often do you see guys from extreme S. Fla. at the races in the panhandle (the extreme north). If you are racing for year end points, you'll have to hit at least one or two of the extreme north-south races, but not all of them!

As far as MX goes, I'd love to do the Gold Cup and Winter Ams, but can't stand racing 6 straight weeks, plus all of the races are 3-6 hours from us. We do hit some of the local stuff at the Lusk's track in Bainbridge, Ga. which is only an hour away. We have thought about doing the FL/GA series, but those races are quite a drive too. We have lots of racing options close by, and when do race MX it tends to be locally.

No.

It's more of a matter of the clientele.

South Florida riders typicallly aren't as hardcore as other areas and won't purchase an AMA licence. I worked at the old Pepsi/Air Dania for years, and it was initially an AMA track, and rarely would anyone buy a license, no one cared. Eventually the track dropped it's sanction as it wasn't worth the fees.

Any politics in Florida racing is between promoters. "that's all I got to say about that" - Forrest Gump

Yup.

You know an awful lot about FL MX dude. I'm not buying the whole "out of state guy" thing.

No agenda here, just trying to figure out 2010 racing. Up north we have districts and here it seems more cut throat.

Sorry but true!

We were once district 8 here in Florida. I don't believe we have been recognized by the AMA as an organized district since the mid to late '80's.

You don't have to be into Fl motocross long to figure out that there's definately issues with the promoters here. But I feel like it's giving the avg joe plenty to choose from. Being in West Central Fl. and going about this in a very low buck way, I'm able to get my kid to lots of different tracks. It's hard to follow a series that runs 6 straight weeks with how our economy is right now. We hit a few here and there to test the waters as far as competetion for my kid.
