I know there are some of you on this board that have a martial arts background/experience, and so I'm hoping to pick your brain a little bit.
I've been interested in a class (classes actually, once a week at least) in some type of martial arts training...but there are so many different kinds of martial arts, that I"m not sure what would be the best for me?
I do have a wrestling background (jr. high, high school wresting).
I'm mostly interested in the "getting in shape" aspect of it, but I'm also interested in the self-defense side as well.
So which style is best for both practical self-defense, and for getting in shape???
Thanks in advance.

This will work better in "self defense" situations.

My son also took Tae Kwon Do and had fun with it. He did it for a couple years...but got burned out. His was 2 days a week...every week with no breaks.
This is what I'm packing.
I have a buddy that did Akido most of his life. Supposedly he's pretty good, but he doesn't talk about it much.
Don't know what art suits you best. I know that TKD is hard on the joints because they tend to emphasize "snap" in kicks and punches.
The Best schools teach both.
Krav Maga training is intense but its fast pace and not good for conditioning, but Jiu Jitso training is alot of ground work, where you can be grappling with someone over and over again.
The MMA class I go to is like most, they will work on their chosen ground work one day a week, box one day a week and condition one day a week. That may be your best bet.
Another thing with Krav Maga, youll have a hard time finding a good teacher if you live in a rural area. Plus its geared more towards killing someone then conditioning.
Pit Row
Are you having problems with a bully?
At this point I"m leaning toward the Krav Maga (since there is a school really close to my house).
Thanks again!
