Just got this bike and will need to remove the rear shock soon. I reviewed the manual and it has you removing muffler, sub frame and ecm to get the shock out. Seems like a lot just to remove the shock. Is all this necessary or is there a better way.

It’s not that bad to remove the rear shock. It look more intimidating than it really is. I’m a big guy and pulled mine to swap shock spring. In fact I swapped mine, then convinced myself the race tech spring was going to be to heavy. Pulled it again and swapped it for Honda recommended heavy spring.
I didn’t completely remove my tank. Just turned it sideways and tied it to my bars.
The hardest part are the electrical connectors, at least for me. Once you get it figured out how release the connectors it’s not to bad.
My wife came out in the garage and couldn’t figure out why I had a brand new scooter taken apart. She even posted on Facebook is it normal to completely take a new dirt bike apart. Of course the responses she got were no it’s not normal. I just laughed and reminded her is it normal to change paint colors on a bedroom so many times the room gets smaller!!!

Out the bottom with linkage removed is doable, but still a pain. I've done it the service manual way as well and it was fine... Less chance of scratching things up.

I pulled the linkage and swingarm off. It was super easy that way AND a good opportunity to re grease everything.
I thought about doing that the second time I pulled mine just grease the swing arm even though it was new. I decided not too, everything on mine seemed greased up good for a new bike so I didn’t.
