They fit young kids better than old vets, unless you are very skinny.

I actually like my Troy Lee. On my second one now. Had one for 8 years. Looks like crap from lack of ever cleaning it very well, but never fell apart like the O'Neals and Fox's we've had. First ride out in my shiny new one a few months back and I faceplanted and skinned it all up. Go figure.

Comes in different colors.

We're similar in size, i'm just one pant size up and +/- a few pounds (been on the heavy side lately).

I've had a Senteniel for a few years now and it has served me well even with the fluctuation in weight (college diet). Its still doing its job sans backplate since I managed to rip it off when I lawn darted straight onto my head/shoulder. Works well with a Leatt.

I am 6'2 210lb its a bit short but works fine due to the bars being in front of the exposed part, when standing id say only 2-3 inches short but i rarely use mine anymore, yeah i know dumb................. and the clear back straps make it almost unnoticeable and I think they are like 7-8 bucks.

I think they are the least invasive but like it was mentioned above you have to be very thin for it to fit correctly....Mine is a wee bit too small since im 6'3 200lbs. Used a Fox Airframe for years till I shattered it from my crash ....it saved my life.

As for protection they don't do much other than roost deflection not very effective for preventing collarbone and shoulder injuries or hard slams to the ground like most other full size protectors offer. IMO......and I am aware that chest protectors are not 100% effective nor were they designed to prevent a clooarbone break but they do help if designed correctly.

Im not any smarter than a 12 year old either, yet 12 year olds routinely school me on the track. Blink

It's very light, and even as a woman I think it fits well and the style looks great. Though it rips (fabric parts connecting the back plate) and break sort of easily. Pretty pricey too but worth it.

Does he wear that with a Leatt?
If so how does he wear it?

My 14 yr old son is looking for a different kind of Chest Protector now that he is getting a little bigger and we need something that is comfortable with the Leatt.

He had been using the 661 Defender but it doesn't sit right with the Leatt anymore as he is 5'10" and about 175lbs now.

Just some info for ya. Thor put out a mass recall on the new '10 Sentinel. Apparently the rivets are fallin out like a tweekers teeth! Also the buckles were breaking on them. Judging by the volume of returns and warranty's i was doing, it was a good choice by Thor to suck it up and do the recall.

The new 661 "Rogue" looks like a good option. Lightweight under-protector with a bit of hard plastic (like the Fox Titan Race, but Leatt compatible)

Thanks for the input ! I like how my old Scattershield fit and was hoping to get something with a similar design.

i have the sentinal, been using it for the last two years and it works awsome. i am 5 foot 7, and 172lbs. mine fits perfect. it is nice to wear under the jersey as well. mine has no damage and still looks new after a cleaning.
here's mine after a 3hr endurance mx race yesterday....................

I don't really like it with the Leatt, the neck opening is just too small.

I had one and it worked fairly well with my leatt. I liked it-until I crashed and landed on my shoulder and ended up breaking and dislocating my arm at the same time. Then I decided I needed better shoulder protection on a chest protector.

This has been happening on my 09. Rivets started falling out of the shoulder piece within 6 months, and is now held in place with duct tape. A rivet also recently broke in the buckle, so I cant even keep it on.

I cut off the shoulders and zip tied it to my leatt on the front and back- and wore it under my jersey for years. Worked great.

I know it sounds stupid....I just have a hard time believing a little piece of plastic is going to do THAT much to protect you in a crash. I've been in some big crashes where the plastic did little to help out. I dunno..........

I agree with you on that, I wear a chest protector mainly for roost protection and keeping handlebars outta my ribs if I wad up. I know opinions differ, but I just dont see a piece of plastic stopping shoulder injuries like separated shoulder, broke collar bones, and other impact type injuries.

It's not that is for shoulder protection specifically it's that it helps out a great deal with the plastic and foam under say like an airframe.....it spreads out the force of the impact with the plastic and foam so not 100% of the energy is directed to the shoulder/collar bone. That little amount can really help out and in some cases be the difference between walking away and going to the hospital. Ill take that little protection as a piece of mind...
