We don't love them irrationally as posed in another thread. That is incorrect. It's actually very rational. Few argue that the two stroke today is a more effective racing machine. It's more like loving the P-51 Mustang over the F-16 Falcon. Just as there were pilots who were part of the transition from the piston-driven propeller era to the jet age. The Falcon is badass but...we rode 2 strokes in our youth. The sound of them...the smell of them...the feel of them are strongly bonded to decades of memories and legendary battles that we witnessed and were a part of. They were the best times of our lives and we will always love them, just as the youth of today love the memories being created in their lives. True lovers of the sport love both kinds for different reasons...and for the same reason: They are amazing machines created for the individual combat sport of motocross that has captured our souls with its raw beauty, outdoor essence, and timeless nature.
2 Strokes were great...and still are.

Good talk, sound, smell, free feeling, simplicity, raw mechanical power, gotta love a two stroke.
Also, on the F-16 front, we all love an A-10 but that's still a mean gun on the F-16 😂
Stated well, Mr. Pilotdude. They are harder to ride, but easier to work on.
Here is the p-51 plane Hannah raced at one time at 500mph.

You could easily change a top end at the track. You could show up in a truck with your bike, an ice chest and a tool box and go racing.

I was doing top ends on my 84 KX80 at 12 years old. Wonderful learning experience. Loads of fun for a kid with a toolbox.
Couldn’t agree more!
I rode/raced 2-strokes up until I got into the 250F class. Got a YZ125 and sold it 2 weeks later and went with a 250F, which was a good decision for me at the time. Raced those until I stopped racing “seriously” around 19/20 years old.
Once I was done racing I got a YZ250, had some work done to the engine. Loved everything about it. Still ride a YZ250 today and when I do the odd race that’s what I use.
Never fails to put a smile on my face when I ride it or see the parts price total for a top end rebuild.
It’s a shame that people stopped buying them in big numbers when the four strokes came
Since the new 2 Strokes are EXACTLY as advanced in chassis and suspension as the 4 Strokes … the 2 Stroke vs 4 Stroke is more of an F-16 vs F-15.
4 Strokes / F-15s are Faster than 2 Strokes / F-16s … in AMA Pro Racing Classes.
2 Strokes / F-16s are Cheaper than 4-Strokes / F-15s.
2 Strokes / F-16s have Half the Displacement / Engines …
2 Strokes / F-16s are Lighter …
2 Strokes / F-16s are more Agile …

I will be the first to admit that after "the other thread" I understand the 2 smoke love a lot more and leaning more towards the 2 stroke side.
There was a lot of typical/expected comments but within the thread there was actually some really good points made that I now fully agree with. I went back and watched Jimmy D on a 125 and have to admit it got me more pumped up than all four stroke videos combined.
