I’m struggling to understand your post and thought process. How do you engineer better racing?

Well for this discussion creating a starting method that isn't needlessly dangerous and takes out talent for no reason. Moto 2 of 250s was less than it could have been since Hunter got hurt. He's is the top rider in the lites class at the moment and the racing is better with Hunter racing. Hunter got hurt because of random chance and no fault of his own, all from a starting method that is overly dangerous for no reason other than tradition.

Hmmmm…not really seeing the correlation between your opinion and engineering. You can’t engineer better racing. You can engineer better equipment, safety equipment, racetracks, but you can’t engineer better racing. All you have done is give your thoughts on how something should be done with out providing instruction or direction on how to do it.

It could have been worse. Someone could blind a racer with a laser at the start.

Not saying its causing injuries,  but get rid of the start devices and the grates. Starting is and should be a skill. Stop trying to kill it.

Yep, it's a topic that keeps consistently resurfacing here.  Get rid of the lame starting devices, RPM gauges, and the metal grates.  They all take the skill out of starts and they all contribute to higher speeds into the first turn which can be more dangerous.  Instead of requiring skill/technique and reaction time, it's now just reaction time for a good jump.  So lame.

Levi confirms it here at the 9:40 mark:

Manipulating the model of how racing operates i.e. the starting system is engineering race outcomes. To engineer something just means to manipulate or design it.

What’s the ratio of first turn crashes to starts?

Get rid  by of the grates and water the shit out of the first 50-75ft of the start straight to make it slippery as f^ck!

less speed will lead to fewer crashes and if they do crash the consequences aren’t as severe.
