In the capital of the Soviet Union. The Cold war still a reality for 3 mmore months. 1,6 million people who have grown up on polka and the Trolololol-song with accompanying awful but strict choreography. On stage steps a group of young American dudes in tight fit jeans, wifebeaters, hillbilly beards, no rules, thumping bass, pyrotechnics, headbanging while not following any linear rules for stage performance. Few there had even heard an electric guitar before. Soldiers in uniforms jumping on their friends backs taking off their jackets to wave and headbang. I get goosebumps just watching this. The sound quality is pretty good too. I think that day music actually made a difference in the world. No virtue signaling pricks with tons of money spreading pseudo-intellectual messages. Just music and two very different worlds headbanging for 1,5 hours straight:
As soon as I read the title I had a feeling it was going to be that clip.
It's insane. I can't even imagine what it would be like to stand next to all those people.
I think Lars once mentioned that alot of people knew the words to all the songs, and that the only way they could have heard Metallica before that concert was from bootleg tapes that were smuggled into the country.
Something that is not shown in the clip is there were military helicopters hovering just above all those people to try and calm the crowd down.
Full Concert
I heard about this gig before , but 1.6 million … dammmmn 😲
You can see what looks like a helicopter hovering over in the background at 4:08. It´s crazy low. Only in Russia
It´s so incredible to see the sheer happiness and adrenaline in both the crowd and the band.
Never seen that before. Very cool.
Imagine if you had to take a piss in the middle of all that.... lol
These days we have Taylor f**king Swift.

Stunning to see that many kids of a country that was/is our enemy that just want what we have and love everything America and freedom. Now, kids in America want what the Commies had back then. The mind boggles.
Pantera's set from that show was fucking amazing. Especially Domination
