I've had both my ankles done. The ligaments were torn right off the bone on both of them from just rolling and spraining them to much. I had what is called an " Evans Procedure ". The cut and remove the torn ligament. Then they cut a tendon and screw it in place of the ligament. I could'nt roll my ankle if I tried. It turned out fantastic. I've had numerous surgerys through my life [ spleen removal, double hernia, L4 L5 S1 ruptured discs, broken tib/fib, and the best out come was when she did my ankles[two years apart]. No real lousy side effects. Evans Procedure, go with that. I forgot to mention that I was in a cast for 3 1/2 months.Cheers.

Had my ankle fused in 2000. After 3 surgerys I was in a cast and out of work for 9 months. Hang in there.

I did something like this about 20 years ago. Assuming no issue with cartilage, it does get better. It just takes a while. Especially at your advanced age :-)

You know what they say, bones break and doctors fix them.
How did you get hurt? Time goes by fast and you will be running around like a fool before you know it. On the positive side this will give you some time to read dirty magizines with your friend.

Oshow I just finished rehabbing an athlete with an ankle ligament reconstruction. The injury happened back in August and I'm just now allowing the athlete to return back to a more intense training schedule.

MXATC they just put me in a hard cast yesterday, 2 weeks and a day after the surgery. I'm in it for four weeks and then I will start rehab.

Sound about right to you?

Ankle sprains are a common injury that cause damage to the ligaments around the ankle. The most commonly injured ligament is the lateral ligament complex, which is composed of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL), calcaneofibular ligament (CFL) and posterior talofibular ligament (PTFL). In many cases, the injury to the ligaments is incomplete and/or the ligaments heal in a manner that stability is restored to the ankle joint. In some cases, however, the ligaments heal poorly and the result is an unstable ankle joint.

The symptoms of ankle instability are pain, swelling, recurrent ankle sprains and ankle weakness. Initial treatment is a program of exercises and bracing to attempt to control the instability by utilizing secondary stabilizers. If this fails then surgical treatment is recommended.

At Regional Orthopedics, this condition can be repaired on an outpatient basis utilizing a 3-inch incision over the lateral aspect of the ankle. The torn ligaments can be repaired and tightened. In some cases the ligament tissue is insufficient and a tissue graft is needed to reconstruct the ligament. This can be accomplished utilizing local tissue from the area when necessary. Recovery time is 4 weeks in an ankle brace followed by 4-6 weeks of rehabilitation.

man that sounds rough. Good luck with the recovery.

I don't think threads like these make for good marketing for MX. Just reading this (and considering my own issues) makes you wonder why the hell anyone would ride a dirt scooter at all.
