Haven't bought a new bike since 2011, haven't even ridden in a few years but I'm getting the itch again. Mostly ridden Honda and Kawi before, but there is a clean 2020 KTM 450 and a 2021 Gasgas 450 with a MX tech spring conversion, both are fairly low hour and similar in price. Pros and cons? Coming off of a 2010 Crf 450 (I was one of the ones who loved that generation Honda) so I have no experience with airforks.
Mx tech spring conversions are legit if it’s the lucky gen 2 or newer. Those bikes are going to be very similar. A few parts on the ktm are nicer, triple clamps, and perhaps rims.
Bikes and prices being similar I'm taking the gas gas with the mx tech inserts especially if they still have the AER internals. You can put those back in and sell the bike and have the inserts put back in your next Ktm, GG or husky.
You answered your own question. When looking for a new bike, look for a new bike.
If you liked that gen Honda, you'll love the newest gen Hondas too. I happen to have a 21 for sale if you're interested.

I could, but with how much I've ridden the past 8 years or so, hard to justify dropping 10 grand when I can't guarantee I'll be riding often. Plus my fiance will probably be pissed when we still have a honeymoon to pay for
New leftover. Rmz450
Dealers are being stupid with those now too. Hardly worth it vs a new kx. Used, maybe.
Good call. Leftover kawy. Great deals. .
Also going to need new boots, I'm embarrassed to say how old my SG10s are (or proud that I made them last that long?) What's a decent mid level boot for someone with wide flat feet?
First thing you wanna do when looking for a new bike is look for one that comes with an expansion chamber.
Ok, looks like I'm picking up a leftover 22 KX450 this weekend. Must do mods? What's the deal with switching maps?
