Broken swingarm/chain guide CRF

It happened. After 20 years of riding I finally broke a chain guide. Does anyone make a chain guide guard/swingarm guard for the CRF like Bulletproof does for the KTM’s?

As you can see sprocket bolts weee tight and secure. Lol

Haven't seen one for a Honda. Newer Honda brackets are sort of long. If you have it welded back together might have some bracing added in.

I called Bullet Proof Designs and they have a version that might fit. Gonna check it out tomorrow.

I did order a new swingarm but only because this one has a giant gouge along the inside from the sprocket that is several mm deep.

I was running the TM Designs V2 guide but honestly it looks like the SX version is a ton smaller and shorter. I might try that.

I have a feeling the single bolt on the back tab backed out then everything went because the threads are still there on that tab. Here’s the damage to the inner part of the swingarm.

Yes indeed.

They are a non heat treatable Aluminium, from all of my experience with Japanese Swingarms and frames.

I've done weld beads over gouges (usually from Sprocket Bolts (not torqued enough...... just using one of this sites sayings Woohoo ) like that, linished the bead back, to it being almost non detectable, and either held the swingarm myself for a few weeks for it's 'curing ' / 'normalization', or recommended the owner to do so. Most, just put the swingarm back on, and go riding.

I've never had one of my repairs fail.

While a engineer was doing the bead, You'd get him to repair the Chain Guide brackets, with a better, stronger solution than standard. So many late model chain guide brackets are  utterly  Pathetic. Seemingly,  just afterthoughts for something so critical.

I've often either made a bolt on chain guide reinforcement, as a few companies offer, or, better still, added a further piece of bracketry to  enhance the chain guide 'holding'. An example :

PDS Delta Box CRE Swingarm - underneath showing CG reinforcement plate
