I have a really similar scenario to speak on. December of 2018 I was out trail riding with some buddies. Took a crest too spirited, and didn't anticipate a corner coming up. Blew through a bush instead, and hit the ground hard on my right side. Upon gathering myself, I wasn't able to put weight on my right knee without it giving out. Ironically, I crashed again going up a hill trying to get back on a fire road. Subsequently broke my shoulder and tibial plateau fracture of the same knee. I remember when I fell, my bad knee broke my fall. It popped twice, and bend out sideways. Luckily, I was still able to get back on the bike and ride myself back to the truck.

To further the story, the ER I went to (Newport Beach HOAG) did Xrays and CT scan of my knee. Both the orthopedic and physical therapist affirmed me that my ligaments were all intact (MCL was sprained).

4 1/2 years later today, I had pretty sever knee pain over the winter (cold for CA, longer than we're used to). Got the MRI, and results are that my ACL and meniscus are torn. Completely unaware of the circumstance until now. Scheduled for surgery in 3 weeks.

Moral of the story, get an MRI.

I passed the little physical tests they do by twisting your knee and pushing  on it. But the mri said otherwise.

I’ve done both my ACLs, sounds about right.

Years of riding without my right ACL ruined my meniscus. Don’t do that

Sucks, but it’s not going to end your riding. Good luck hope it’s only a partial tear.

Exactly the same for me. Passed all the tests, did full PT. All was good otherwise, despite seldom discomfort, until I sprained my ankle on the same leg. The combination exasperated the issue.

I passed those as well. Doesn't mean much when you instinctively tense up and your muscles compensate. My ACL was shredded.
