What do you guys think about the varying formats from race to race? Is there one in particular you like? Seems like a neat way to get the "main event" to last longer without letting it get really spread out. Football games are about 3 hours, baseball games about 4, yet a Supercross main is only about 15 minutes.
Personally, I think it allows for new winners and new riders to get near the front. I find it exciting that each week is different as well, but definitely understand wanting to be consistent to not confuse a casual fan, as well as stick with history.

So be entertaining!
Racing needs something to push it to the "next" level...and new format's are maybe just what we need.
Now while I realize the aussy series is trying to get more national exposure with their online race recaps....IMHO, they are awesome and I wish the states had it in this format (the outdoors have that racerx show that's awesome, why doesn't the sx series have it - unless I missed it and am a complete internet peon)
Makes the SX last longer.

Its only SX1 class that is new format.
they had 2x 8 lap finals didnt they...?
I really liked how they did the hot laps at Tassie, where they let the top ten fastest qualifiers, including lites, each run a lap against the clock.
The scoring gets confusing too. Also if you have big dollar sponsors relying on expected results getting sold short because a 5 lapper wasn't enough after a bad start that cant be good in the long term.
I'm actually still relatively open to it though as its a short series and a really good addition to the existing AMA series running the traditional format. Its good to be different.
BTW Reed was very vocal about his disapproval of the formats last year saying it sux for his preparation for AMA and if they want to attract USA riders they need 20 lappers.
Round Robin - Opens Only
One of the exciting new formats for this year's series, the Round Robin consists of 3 rounds with 3 heats of 10 riders in each round. Each heat will be 5 laps each, giving a total of 9 races per round. Each heat will also consist of a different list of riders so they will be pitted against diffeent riders each time. The riders with highest accumulative points from the heats make the 12 rider, 8 lap final.
250cc class will compete in the "Super Sprint" race which consists of 4 heats of 10 riders in 6 lap races. The top 5 from each heat go through to make the 2 x semi finals of 10 riders each, with the top 6 from each semi final going through to the final. The top 12 riders will contest an 8 lap final.
Going to be my first round to go to this year, so looking forward to it.
You cant knock anybody for looking outside the box and trying new things. Some will work, some wont.
What if the top 20 were qualified prior to the show, and these races replaced heat racing? I definitely see some downfalls with this (less riders in the "show" for their sponsors, TV coverage, etc.) but I Think it has some major upside as well.
Maybe they should go to a 2 night format... "special" format one night, and typical the next.
I'm a fan of more close racing as a spectator, and I think this provides that... as well as different winners.
AND, the Head to head, 3 lap races, mixed class...
That way you see loads of racing and the head to head actually allows for some racing... Instead of who gets the start...
Then, every other round, do the mains with just heats to qualify and 2 or 3 5 Lap races as the other feature...
I just don't think any SX race delivers enough on track time... It sux when a main is over in 15 mins...
