Eighth of a ton, who the hell is dumb enough to embrace the idea of an overweight pig like that. And to top it off, they want $8090.00 for it! I thought we were supposed to be moving forward here? Damn, the mfgs. of modern motocross bikes must really take us for a bunch of really stupid idiots. Really really stupid. Somebody please come on here and try to explain to everyone that in all actuality it's ONLY nine pounds heavier than last years bike.......LOL...LMFAO! I always thought motocrossers had a little common sense about themselves and took a little pride in their rides. Obviously the mfgs. think differently than I do. Looks like KTM is the only large mfg. left that still has a clue what MX is all about. And for that, I salute you Mr. Lightweight Dirt Bike Maker!

newmann, You have it all wrong. For years physics stated that lighter weight in all forms of racing is always better. Car, boat, MX, bicycle… racers have always paid thousands of dollars to cut just a few pounds. In MX where the operator is muscling around the actual weight of the machine, it is even more crucial.

The part you’re missing is that in the last few years, marketing has become so advanced that it overcame physics and therefore we don’t need light bikes anymore.

Man, get your head screwed on straight!

It’s like comparing a Ferrari and an Escalade. They are both fast, but most don’t have the skill to race the Ferrari to its potential so to save face, they buy the Escalade with all the latest ‘features’. It makes for better bench racing and looks “Pimp” in the pits with all the bling you can buy for it.

Since Harley sales are down, these will be re-boxed and sold as YZ450 bike stands.

Because they know that the folks that buy 4 $trokes do not demand light weight and performance, but would rather see bling and features and will go for the marketing hype. If this were not the case, they would have shaved OFF 7 pounds and everyone would have been excited.

Maybe this sport needs to shrink so we can cut out some of the fat - those who are not in it for the right reasons or just to look cool. I dont want bench racers buying heavy feature filled bikes and sending that message to bike makers and changing what type of bike I have to race. If this sport loses all the people who are not in it for performance, maybe we can get them to make real bikes again.

For the 2011 model, Yamaha can cut one or two pounds and buyers (like me) will go nuts and have to have the "new, lower weight" YZ450FWhistling

Claimed weight on four strokes has been baloney for years. 238 wet means 224 dry (without 2 gallons of gas at 7#/gallon)? I think they took them to the top of Mt. Fuji and weighed them...The last year or two is the first time their claimed weights were even halfway believable.

For the record, my CR500AF weighs 225 dry on a real scale - one that shows the correct weight when I put stacks of barbells on it.

I'll bet if you put a '09 and a '010 on the same scale, they'd weigh within 2#.

The new Yamaha 450 might be a little bit heavier, but how Yamaha has designed the new bike you can't even feel the weight. Read and listen to all the interviews test riders have commented how the bike feels lighter than any other 450 out there.

Did you happen to watch the bike go around the US Open track? and see how good the bike corners? It's the new 450 and the future of motocross.

Even in the Vital video test, you can see how good the bike is.

Why would you slam the bike before your able to ride it NEWMANN? I see you think your someone that know, but I assure you that you don't know. You should be a shammed of yourself for trying to take credit away from the best motorcycle in 2010.

Yea I definitley dont think it will be an issue. Its still the bike to beat and it will lose weight in years to come.

Hey Joe,

Don't let the melon head thing concern you....... I went with the genuine Yamaha Racing penis enlargement kit to drop my center of gravity a bit to offset my large melon......Laughing

Whats it matter how the handling feels,if you cartwheel & the 245lb pig smashes you in the centre of the back?
My god, are we really this dumb?
My 06 yz450, weighed less, yet felt heavy, what am I missing?
Just quitely, the handling on my 250SX feels pretty good....

There you have it. I am a shammed.

With all this mass centralization, the big four will be demanding the minimum weight limit be increased from 216. They already tried that not long after the 450's came on the scene didn't they?

That's what I've been thinking. Seven pounds is seven pounds. Maybe you won't notice that extra weight on the track because of Yamaha's magic new engine, but you'll definitely notice it when you put your bike on the stand or pick it up from a crash.

Just saying.

Have you ridden it? You saw James Stewart ride a bike fast so it must be the best? Everyone praised the '09 Honda, and then months later nobody liked it. (well I still like it, but that's besides the point)

All I've seen so far about this bike is hype. There has to be cons to it. I'll wait and see, thank you very much.
