Anybody have any experience they can share about the GUTS RJ wide wing seat? I’m not the best at gripping my bike. I need to get better at that. I’m thinking this seat would help but it comes with a solid price tag. I specifically have a 22’ Yamaha YZ450.
Thank you in advance!

I’m looking to add a bump or step as well. GUTS will build a wide wing seat with a bump or step complete so it is ready to bolt on but it is a $400 ish cost.

I have those already and love them!

I’m curious if the wide wing seat has helped anyone with squeezing the bike better and getting some more control.

I installed one of these covers (pretty sure it was a Guts-had the same wings) for a buddy on his FC350. He said it helped him to grip the bike and as a way of reminding him on body position.

I have had an RJ Wing seat for about 3 years on my KTM 250XCW for woods riding. I've never found that the seat really helped me with additionally with grip. The wing is one single hump in the middle. It would make more sense if there were two wings (in the front and the back) and you were gripping in the middle between the two to lock your leg in.

What has worked for me is using Stompgrip on my plastics and frame. My legs and boots lock in when I need to like instant velcro. Screenshot 20230319 152942 Google

IIRC that seat was built and designed around the skinnier, Austrian bikes so I’m not so sure adding it to one of the widest bikes would be the best move. I would lean towards the stomp grip before making your YZ even wider for a hefty price.

Are there certain areas on the track that you’re feeling like the bike is getting out from under you or is it at all times?

I use it more for getting the knees in front of the wings and using them like levers. I love mine. I would absolutely get another one too. Why wouldnt you just buy the cover?

Crossup:  looks like your stomp grip was a kit?  can you share where you ordered?  looks nice!  is the plastic hard or a softer rubber compound?

I ordered direct from Stompgrip and just found my bike on their drop down menu. The kits are pre cut for your bike. There are glue activator sticks that you should order with it that helps it stick perfectly. The material is like a really hard urethane. After riding for 6 months I've had no wear on the Stompgrip at all.

I feel that would be way too ride on a Yahmaha in my opinion.  I got one for my 23 Husky and thought it helped in some situations, but hurt in others.

Pros: instant knee contact and grip.

cons: a little too wide, made grip with ankles harder. Made it harder to slide front and back on the bike because knees were gripping the seat.

I ended up opening up the seat and removing 60-70% of the wind, just so it was slightly wider than normal.

I was looking at this seat. I can't justify $400 for a seat, but I was looking at the cover though. Are the wings a hard plastic or stiff padding?

The wings are just extra seat foam extruding that is covered by seat cover. They aren't hard.

You can make your own winged seat with a Factory Effex stick on seat hump, knife and belt sander for around 20 bucks.

Sounds good. I took the Moto Academy course last year and AJ Catanzaro said I'd benefit from this seat. Looks like I'll be ordering one. Try and grab the delivery before the wife knows. lol

I found this design a couple years ago too from Corbin, but I didn't want to buy another seat and test it out. This looks like it would capture your leg much better.

I've used RJ wing seatcover and it works. The wings got a little soft for me after several rides which wasn't favorable, i liked when they were firmer since i could feel it more. It really helps you control the bike with your legs more as you should be.

Crossup: I've used the stomp grip 8 or so years ago on many occasions. They always seemed to come off after a few rides (even after meticulous application with a crystal clean surface). If you know, has the quality improved or does this application glue the magic fix?

I run it and like it. Only problem is the padding gets soft pretty quick.

Had one for about a year now on a GasGas 450, gonna say it doesn't make that much difference for me.  Maybe it's my height so it still doesn't catch my knees (I'm 6'3").  I'd just go with a gripper seat if I was doing it again.

Yeah I put the stompgrips on for the first time about 6 months ago. I spent the extra money to get the activator glue. After cleaning the plastics as they recommended (which were already used), I applied the activator on the plastic in the space that the stompgrip was going to go. It dried pretty quickly but once I applied the stompgrip it's stuck to it pretty amazingly. (kind of like patch glue and a patch)  The edges of the stompgrip are places where I thought they would peel up, but it has had no peel up at all.

You can see the wear areas on the plastics and graphics that are underneath the stompgrip when I put it on. (yeah its dirty...I just got done riding) Major wear area with no peel up at all.
