Rider of the year???

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 12:41pm
Who wins rider of the year at the Transworld Awards in Vegas next week.

Since RD won 3 championships basically (SX/MX/MXDN) does that give him the edge??

RD is the best....!

Thoughts?

It's going to be tough. On the basis of trophies then Dungey is the winner but after the shit that Pourcel has had to overcome to win a SX title and come so close to an outdoor title then i'd pick him.

Pourcel is a bad dude for sure. So is JS (SX) and CR (MX), but RD got all 3 he went for.

RD will hands down be rider of the year. His mxdn ride may be the ride of the decade so far with all things considered. 1st 450 race 1st race out of the country at the biggest mx pressure cooker in the world. RD for president.. !!

My rider of the year is Marvin Musquin. When our GP season started nobody even knew who he was. He just turned up on a privateer honda and started killing it.

GP wise I totally agree. I remember at race one and race two of the season wondering who #25 was. Then I started really liking him when him and Zach Oz had that awesome battle in Turkey. MM didn't even podium the year before so I thought maybe he just looked fast because Tyla and Tommy were gone but at the mxdn he proved he's one of the fastest 250 riders in the world this year. We'll never know how he'd match up w/CP and RD though.

Didn't Pourcel insult Musquin and the other french riders by saying he doesn't even know who the hell they are and has never seen them before ? Maybe he had cold feet being on the team with them after he said that.

I think Pourcel got his shoulder fixed right after Steel City. Had he waited it would have given him a month less of rehab. I dont think he let his country down. Sometimes you have to do whats right for your career.

Dungey is the only guy out there that would be getting screwed if he doesnt win. Can anyone argue that..? 3 out of 3 is hard to argue, with no one else having more then 1.

I would certainly agree with you if RD would have been able to beat Reed or Cairoli straight up in one of his motos. However a win is a win so it very well could be enough.

I'm on it.

I think some of you need to go back and re-read the posting rules. And then don't be surprised if you continue with the same behaviour, and suddenly discover that you can't post.

SX is the most important tittle all year and people are quick to forget what JS1 overcame this year to win it over 22. Also remember 22 said that lites tittles don't count for anything important. #9 won all 3 tittles in 2005 and didn't get pick for rider of the year so if they picked dungey it just means that you're only are as good as your last race and RD is #1 in the world if you choose to believe that. Either way their all good choices for rider of the year but i would give the nod to JS only because SX is the biggest tittle in our sport to win. Like it or not its true

Dungey should get a rider of the year license plate so JLaw can make it for him in jail! At least he will know he won it cause he probably doesn't even know we won the MXON! Woohoo

I wouldnt say choking on one SX regional title equates to "a history of choking".

Reed could get it too. Look at the odds of him winning the outdoors, slim to none at the beginning of the year. Also took a very close second in SX to a no-show outdoors. So js7 is out. Pourcel? Ha, he is a former world champ, now riding a support class, and losing! Sore loser at that. So good on a bike, but what an ass off the bike. It's between CR and RD. With RD having the edge.

377 has been riding the 250/125 class since 2003 or 4.. That 6 or 7 years w/one year off for injury. That's too long. The euros race GPs support class for 5 years then come over here and get to do it 3 more years. Rattray rode his first 125 cc gp in like 2001 and the guys in the 250 class again next year. Nothing against CP and TR but they need to move up.
