I am new to modern bikes and this is my first 4 stroke. I was able to buy myself a brand new KX450 last year. Its been sitting still new but I am setting it up for spring time. Are there any necessary or worthy upgrades that should be done before I send it?
Already doing,
52t rear sprocket and chain.
upgraded rims with 18” IRC M5b rear
Renthal twinwalls, Arc levers and full waffles
Devol Skid plate and radiator guards
heavy rear spring
Anything else mechanical I should do?

Forks are soft stock, the heavy rear spring will make it worse. I'd go up on the fork spring rate also. I'm running 5.2, stock is 5.0.
Acerbis Chain Guide. A must upgrade on a KX.
What type of riding? That 52T rear will likely need a longer chain than the stock 114L. For west coast moto, I prefer 13-50 with a 116L chain to keep the axle back as far as possible. Necessities include 1.8 radiator cap, Moose chain guide (the aluminum OE bends with any rocks or deep ruts in sight), and stiffer fork springs (or more oil at the very least) if you're already firming up the rear. I run a Moose sealed chain roller on the top roller, not only to replace the unsealed and noisy stocker but also in case I have a lower failure (top and bottom are the same dimensionally and interchange). Also, it's a good idea to brake clean those rotors pre-first-ride as they can be dirty off the showroom. Replaced brake and clutch fluid with Motul600 after break-in and felt an improvement as well. Congrats on the new bike! Treat it right, and she'll treat you right 👍
Woods, sand, trails, it varies. Yea I got a 116L chain for the 52t sprocket. And I was going to get a little use out of the chain guide before changing that out.. lol

You will get maybe 3 rides from the stock sliders. I tried to cheap out and buy the Acerbis chain guide and I have ate through the top of 2 in 35 hours. I'm going to get the TM Design guide. I buy the cheap sliders and replace around 8 hours.
I have about 10 hrs on mine, chain rollers & sliders still look good!
yes forks are soft for moto, if your just trail riding, it’s Gona be way stiff!
For cross country type RACING it might be close, depending on your weight & ability! Be sure you have the correct springs for your weight
@slope game Exactly. It is important to choose the right vehicle for the terrain.
