I believe I heard correctly that Nick Wey "leased" his engine from JGRMX this year. With 4-Stroke hop-ups as expensive as they are, this sounds like a great plan for the average privateer who doesn't have the expendable budget that the factories have.
For the weekend warrior competing for the local series, would you, the average rider "lease" a motor from say JGRMX or Pro CIrcuit?

Did you also hear the part where Matthes said that it was not something they advertised much, there is a reason. Would Backyard Bob be able to get his hands on a NASCAR engine for his racecar? They lease their race motors too.
The way I understood it was that it's open to anyone that has the cash.
Something as simple as that could be the saviour of many riders and teams.
And BTW - Great Podcast again Matthes .

Have his ankles healed from X Games yet??
How long before we have multiple teams that have done extensive testing and r&d on each part of a motocross bike? Those teams and companies could easily be producing technology much better than what's sold to the public in a couple years. And I'm talking about better than what the aftermarket is doing now.
and that your technology isnt' stolen.
For the top pro's this sounds somewhat reasonable. But with the alessi rumors about his shock...doesn't inspire confidence.
And at the amatuer level...would be hard to control
In any case good to see outside development.
Pit Row
In order to keep the R&D do they bolt it in before tech and give it back after the 2nd moto or does he have the luxury of running one all week?
Almost like a auto companies warranty. It a motor is tinkered with, it is null and void for warranty and consumer has to eat the cost.
As for the machining etc. i am sure they can tell if their unique designs were copied some how.
I have heard that Hendrick will take any motor out of their top flight cars and provide it to any of their customers if that customer deems it necessary but I haven't heard it being done. I personally doubt thatthe 48 and 24 have the same motors as the Hendrick customer cars but I can't say that based on fact.
The JGR program will be good for the sport in the long run. I don't believe that any motor company will release their best stuff to the average public as many parts are just too short termed engineered to take the beating/lack of maintance that a typical person could provide. With that though I think that the average pro could still benifit from the development done by JGRMX even if it is a few months old. There old stuff would still be better quality than the back woods motor guy could typically provide. Of course there are many talented small shops that make good products but I wonder if the quality control over the long term could be sustained. A big shop can do this better due to their buying power and machining capabilities
