Brother in action on our home track. Doesn’t get more 70s style than that 😂

Some cornfield in Greenville NC 1972. Me red helmet/green shirt on my dad's 58 BSA Gold Star. The early days were sure fun.

Another farmers field around New Burn NC 1972. My first race. Me on the Goldie. Won my first trophy. Still have it.

My dad's land and I had a small track. My 1964 Honda CB160. Not a dirt bike by any means. Never raced it but it still was a ride.

Fairgrounds in Greenville NC 1974. Finally got a real MX bike. This was the first day we got to practice on the fairgrounds track. They dug a huge whole on one side and piled the dirt here. Pretty soft in this picture. The truck in the background with the chair is my Moto ride back then. 1960 International pickup.

Next day race. Some people say the old TM Suzuki's were not very good. After what I was riding prior, I loved it.

Another race at the fairgrounds 74. The track was well broke in now. They had about six races a year. I would usually ride two classes. 250 on the Suzuki and Open on my dad's Gold Star. That was quite a switch as the Gold Star was right hand shift. Me passing a guy. I guess he went down after that. Track got to be pretty sandy.

I joined the Air Force in 1976. Moved to Arizona for four years. This is at Bee Line Dragway. They had a MX track there. Only raced there a couple times. Was really hard pack and dusty. I Bought a 76 RM 250 and a 74 TM 125 that had the shocks moved up. Raced both those that day. My new Datsun P/U.

Joel Robert was my first Moto hero. I changed up my bike and gear to better match him. The track was at its best in this picture. You can see the big pit and the ground is now rough. I really had fun racing there for about three years.

This is one of my favorite shots. 1977 on my 76 RM 250 outside of Gilbert Az. 

After the RM I bought a 78 YZ250. Raced a few times at Canyon Raceway 78 -80. Don't have electronic pictures. I think I have some in one of my many albums. This was somewhere outside of Gilbert also.

God! the memories those old 1970's photos bring back. For anyone who lived it, the 70's truly were the golden age of motocross, because the bikes were developing so fast from year to year and even though they were crude by today's standards, back in the day 2 stroke air cooled dirtbikes were the coolest thing there was and there was nothing like getting together with a bunch of friends and spending the entire day riding with the smell of Blendzall wafting through the air.  My first bike was a 1974 Suzuki TM 125 and then a friend of mine got a 1975 Kawaski KX125 and I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen, then a buddy got a red 1976 Honda CR125 Elsinore that looked like Marty Smiths bike and on and on it went. Christ! I've probably had at least 15 bikes through the years and they were all special, but my 79 CR250R elsinore was the one that got away and miss the most. Wish I could go back to those days when we were young and indestructable. 

My Dad got to race DeCoster here in Australia and my son was Dungeys team mate on the Suzuki under team boss DeCoster. I got to coach the Lawrence’s for there first 7yrs of mx, Fun life of mx.
