Whether the World Championship is viewed as a European Championship with select rounds further a field added on is academic, it's still WAY more prestigious than any national championship, AMA or otherwise.

GPs may lack the bling and sponsorship dough compared to that offered in AMA SX in, but come on, if you were World MX champion with limited SX skills would you really up sticks to compete in a weak 450 national championship that is carried by an indoor series for anything other money?

Don't try explaining that to mcretard. Folks on the message boards have tried explaining it him to for years. He'll never publically admit it, but deep down, he DOES know the so called World Championship is as you say "a European Championship".

Ask any rider from any part of the world if he would rather have a US title or a World title and I guarantee, not a one would chose World.

Wonder what hes like at SX? Pourcel seemed to get to grips with it so don't see why TC couldn't.

why are your guys over here then? Why come to the US when they could be racing in such a hotbed of motocross like Bulgaria and Turkey?

Roczen will be the next Euro to go Stateside.

I really can't see anything that would lure Toni to the states. He has a new challenge with KTM, and with Desalle on a Factory Zook, plus team rivalry between Nagl and Barragan he'll have more of a challenge in the GPs.

Anyway there's no way he'd step down to a 250 now and that seems to be the requirement / right of passage that Yank teams direct a GP guy regardless of experience. The fact that Christophe is having to ride a 250 once more in '10 when there is so much deadwood in their 450 class is a fucking joke.

The ones that leave are chasing $$$$ only - Tommy couldn't get a world championship, knew it and seized his oppurtunity to cash in with a move to the states while he could and i don't blame him for that. Tyla too.

There's more top Euro's stay in the GPs than head stateside and that's a fact.

Granted Bulgaria and Turkey are hardly top tracks, but their not racing Bulgarians or Turks.....

Nope, don't need to.

Any pro rider in a GP paddock who tells you he'd rather have a World title is lying. He's simply giving you lip service. What he's really saying is. "I'm just going to lay low here in Europe and race the GP's because I'm afraid of SX ".

btw...the "weak" National riders absolutley devastated the GP's riders last time they came to America. Racing in America must not be as weak as you think. With Stewart supposedly coming back for the Nationals next year along with Villipoto, Allesi, Grant, Dungey, etc, the GP's could only wish of having a field that talented. Shit, our senior citizen of the Nationals, Timmy Ferry spanked your World Champ, Steve Ramon at Budds. Had to do it from a bad start too!

Don't even make me bring up RC spanking Everts on a 2-stroke at Zolder in 2003.

Congtrats to Cairoli. Im sure he has got to be super pumped! Probably has the same feeling I had when I won my local B class championship. I mean it wasnt A class, but still, I was stoked for sure!

Cairoli will be the next Everts and NEVER come to the US. I dont blame him either! Just stay in the GPs and go after Everts records. That way you can say you are the most accomplished GP rider ever. I mean, why come over here and tarnish your legacy? I wouldnt Laughing

Roczen has already been coming over.

CP probably could have got a 450 ride, I don't know what he makes but staying with the 250's and almost sure championship may be better than trying to get decent pay with a new team, equipment and class.

With regard to Roczen - i mean full time, not one off appearances

As for CP, you hit the nail on the head - $$$

"Don't even make me bring up RC spanking Everts on a 2-stroke at Zolder in 2003." Do we have to dig up this video, AGAIN... Enjoy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnQhxuvCbWo

Sorry to go so low but he was asking for it ;-)

Also...
"he ones that leave are chasing $$$$ only - Tommy couldn't get a world championship, knew it and seized his oppurtunity to cash in with a move to the states while he could and i don't blame him for that. Tyla too."

Don't think that's fair, think the easy option for Tommy would have been to stick around in the GPs especially with his main two rivals moving on as they had a massive gap on the rest of the field. Had he stayed in Europe he would have been the favorite for 09 for sure. Think going Stateside was a brave move for him.

tyla looked real strong on saturday.
overall, a disappointing season in the U.S. for Tom Searle and Rattray

Cairoli why race in the 250's, im pretty sure that a 450 world champ cannot race the 250's in AMA.....anyone care to add to this ???? As for Cairoli going to America......i think if he was to get the right offer he would go but him and Philippaerts have said a number of times that they dont really have a desire to go and race in America when their so comfortable living in Europe. Any American can openly admit that right now...if your a pro 450 rider, the place to be is in the GP's. Me personally, i'd want to race in America, im a sucker for monster energy girls with huge fake titsTongue

Thats 6 out of 40, where are all the rest?

Listen man, i'm no McCread, i was a massive fan of RC and cheered for him at every des nations i saw him race at, as well as cheering for Everts because i'm a motocross FAN, not just a patriot.

I'm a huge fan of Reed, RV and Weimer and i really want Jake to perform well in Italy, but the fact of the matter is in the 450 class after the 6 guys you mentioned they are all deadwood cruising for paychecks - THATS A FACT.

As for the 450 class being weak? Proven at Southwick this past weekend, Smets was a sand specialist too and there's no danger he could have entered Lierop and podiumed in MX1.

Your an idiot.

Dont even make me bring up Everts spanking RC at Foxhills.

Carmichael couldnt even make it up the hill, go and search for some clips and you will see Everts riding over bikes up that hill, then you'll see Carmichael just sat on his bike at the side watching him go up.

yeah....Bubs did not look happy in that video after the race.

lame part is, he tried to downplay it by saying that he was riding for the team....funny Everts saying if Rick was there he'd race him for the win!

That's what's wrong with MXDN, you can't race in that situation unless you want to risk the overall win.

Roles reversed, I doubt Everts would risk the overall just to race James, if he did you guys would point out how stupid it was, especially if he had lost the overall trying to better an individual result.

If there was anything to slow the riders down it wouldn't be so bad, crash on those GP tracks, ours included this season, you're not storming back through the field.

Maybe that's why the US is so strong in Saturday qualifying, less on the line.

I'd like to see an open class moto for big purse at MXDN, fill the gate for one moto and nothing matters but the win.

I'm not sure if Everts would of done the same. Leading up to the event didn't James try taking the piss by saying i dont really know much about the guy apart from that he rides a yamaha hahaha.

That last thing you said would be a great idea but the FIM would rather have money in their pocket instead of letting riders win a purse.

If we could get some outside money we could have something similar to what Nascar does with the Winston, or whatever they call it now. Build a track at one of the speedways and host the best riders from around the world for nothing but some cash. And of course, we invert the field so James starts in back.

I think something like Daytona infield would make a great MXDN, I don't think there's a scenario where they would ever pay to host the race though.

For those saying Pourcel has a "sure" championship in 10, I would say that nothing is sure in motocross as we saw at Southwick.

Also at Southwick we saw Justin Barcia win his first moto and his first overall. The learning curve varies with young riders, but Carmichael and Villopoto and Stewart got it down quick. If Barcia uses this season as his learning season and shows some good intelligence coupled with his incredible speed and style, he could win it all next year.

As for the AMA vs FIM, some people seem to love to argue theoretical ideas as if they are fact. Your OPINIONS are not fact, they are OPINIONS, no matter how strongly you hold them. Check the historical record, as it shows the truth.

And one comment on the 06 MXDN for you "Everts beat Stewart so bad" types. I believe if Carmichael had not gotten hurt, the U.S. would have stomped the rest of the world as badly as we did in 07, if not worse. If you had taken Stewart out the of the team leadership role and removed that pressure, and at the same time given him back Carmichael to race with/against, it is quite possible the two of them would have completely checked out on Everts the way they did in the U.S. all year. Of course, this is all just speculation. What is FACT is that the U.S. won anyway without Carmichael and with an out of shape Tedesco in his place.

I love this old Des Nations argument!

Talking about facts, we should probably mentioned (again) that the US team is pooled from 300 million human beings against UK 60m, Belgium 10m, Germany 80m, France 60m. . . I'd love to see a true Europe VS USA race...

I expect Bubba would have had less excuses if Everts didn't make it look SO easy, its quite a weird clip if you think about it. Wasn't his perfect season ended by the other Pourcel too?

How can you possibly call Stewart out for not going for the Overall, when Everts did the same thing against RC?

It is really lame how people do not realize how a team event works. Egotism, and Vanity have no place in that style event.

Is it a shame that this is the only event we can compare our top riders and bench race? Yes. But, it will always be this way as the event format remains.

These discussions are always US vs the world. When 99% of US fans that I know could not care less over where a rider is from.
A good rider is a good rider period.
CP gets tons of praise, and recognition here and next year when ppl get to know him a little more, he will have a shite load of fans on top of the tons he has now. And he's on a pro circuit 250f because it is the place to be in US teams! Look at the door on the hauler!
