Anyone tried the Boxo tool kit?

I’m sure the Boxo stuff is nice, although pricey. I’ll stick with big box store/Lowes/Home depot on sale for wrenches, sockets etc. Hammers chisels etc. harbor freight. I’ve never understood throwing big money at a ball-peen hammer!!

Like someone said above might be ok for a beginner or someone that doesn’t mind throwing money around. Most of us are fairly well set for tools.

A lot of these companies clearly have different levels of options for the ready to go kits. Why not let consumers spec it out?

And it wouldn’t be terribly difficult either:

- option to select box
- have a drop down menu for each tray/space and select what you want there

First one to capitalize on this gets my money.

I would encourage everyone here to just buy a 3 drawer toolbox, almost any 3 drawer toolbox and do it themselves. Many of them are just imported made in Asia boxes with not too much difference between them.

The TLD ones and Boxo ones are eye-wateringly marked up (especially the sonic tools TLD one, what a joke).

Just get a box like this (which appears to be the same one linked a vital member is selling elsewhere on here for a markup) and then get about 50 bucks of kaizen foam or similar brand off of amazon and you can do it yourself.

I have a badass box, made to do only Japanese bikes, and it was around $400 all in. Can add in a few
odd torx bits and a 13mm and set it up for Austrian bikes too. Someday I will have to post up a picture because it was seriously half the cost than what I see online, and that is with putting nice Taiwanese ratchets and sockets, good Japanese Phillips head and a few made in usa tools in it. Don't forget the tire spoons, found mine (made in Taiwan on eBay).


They key is going to a local tool supply store that sells high quality wrenches and sockets in single sizes. No need to be carrying anything besides a 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 17, 22, 27 and 32 in most cases with japan made bikes. Those sizes will take it to the frame.

Get a sharp craft knife and a good long necked sharpie and cutting out is simple after a small bit of trial and error. Again a 50 dollar order of kaizen foam provides enough foam to trial and error with and still have plenty to fill the three drawer box with some leftover.

The actual box I used, it is great quality. Craftsman also used to make a miUSA 3 drawer box that was in store in 2020 and 2021 at least, your Lowes mays till have one.

Same thought here, build your own into a half-decent top-box if you're watching the pennies, or hit up DCMX if you're feeling flush or want the quality of your track toolbox to be as good as your workshop box, imo. The Boxo kit looks better than most of these do though, some are a joke.

I keep the specialty tools (suspension and engine tools) in the large rolling box and don't really take that anywhere, but I like having it organized

The packouts are nice because they make sense for home storage but can all fasten to each other if you want to take something on the road.

But to answer your question, I have not had any experience with the Boxo. I considered buying that or the Sonic Troy Lee set that was out a while ago, but I went with the packout build and I've been happy with it.
The pack out stuff is awesome. The socket set that comes in the pack out case is next on my list.

I am a former pro team mechanic and now work for a tool company. I see a lot of kits like this on the market; fantastic storage solution / layout but the tools are questionable quality. I put together a kit that is opposite of this; simple storage bag but vey high quality tools. My theory was that people will have their own toolbox choice or preference. Also as Zaugg pointed out, the Kaizen foam you can do on your own is extremely fun to do. I also have done a #Toolboxwars bicycle kit using this foam.

My buddy actually won one signed my Tomac when they did a giveaway last year. He has plenty of tools at home and just uses it for bringing with him to ride and on trips, was jealous he won it but worked out for me too now I dont have to listen to his shitty old rattly toolbox he use to bring when we were carpooling to ride. Ive used the tools a few times and I thought they were super nice I was impressed, certainly nice enough for using at the track/trail only.

I built up my own using this harbor freight tool box and 90% harbor freight tools and duplicate tools I already had and it just stays in the truck at all times.

I have an extreme tool collection. bunches of old craftsman. way to much snap-on, love blue point for the price. use some harbor freight. I carry every tool needed for anything motorcycle related. we have all brands of bikes modern and vintage. This set is $672. for a black friday sale. the only thing I am going to change when I get it is put my real knipex channel locks in the box and of course JIS screw driver will be added.. why in the hell don't they have JIS? hell why dont any of you use JIS??

Hard for me to buy from a company like BoxoUSA that puts USA in their name while nothing is actually made here
If you want to buy tools made in Taiwan there’s a lot of companies with cheaper options

We have this option here in Australia, Ballard's was started by Aussie offroad legend Geoff Ballard, he seen there was a lack of market for MX specific toolbag combos and made this one available to purchase

I went ahead and actually just recently bought one with the 25% off site-wide deal they have going on.  The full 103 kit, 3 drawer box was 670 out the door.

I know it may seem expensive to some, but I'm sitting on zero tools.  So for me, it's my best bet instead of piecing a toolbox together as an absolute beginner wrencher, and not knowing any names or sizes needed, this will definitely be a time saver and money saver for me, time is money in my life, also, so the time id be saving building the box, it just makes it worth it and makes sense for me to go this route.  I will definitely give an update when I can!

Do you guys notice anything in the 103 kits that is missing from everyday tools needed or even at-home tools for pulling the bike apart, motor apart, etc, even though I most likely won't be doing any engine stuff, I am still curious as to what the professional wrenchers eye notices right away what's missing from this set?

I myself personally will be adding my torque spoke wrench so i don't F*ck that up since I tend to do so!
