Most gear is all dye sublimated . I've been experimenting with doing some sublimating to already made gear and the areas that are white take the sublimation ink very very well. But the areas that have color already do not take extra ink/dye as well. With Dye Sublimation you print the image with the sublimation inks onto the special paper, then heat and pressure turn the printed ink into a gas that dyes the fabric. So it is different than using clothing dye and the conventional way of dyeing fabric. When in the press the parts of the jersey that have color on them will often not take the new dye as well and there is sometimes fading of the color that is on the gear from the factory. Going to a darker color than what is on the gear, figuring in how the existing color of the gear will interact with the new colors ( adding blue to a gear with yellow will result in greenish blue or green, blue to red will be purple, etc.) and how the existing colors will interact with the process of dyeing the gear are some things to think about. I would look on Youtube , Dyeing polyester or re dyeing polyester , are a couple things you could search. modern MX gear is made of mostly polyester and spandex with some other materials. Look at the labels on the gear you want to dye, and do a google and youtube search for how to dye or re dye those materials. Polyester and poly blends take sublimation ink/dye the best , the higher the amount of poly the better it will work. Regular fabric Dye , I've never really looked into the types of fabric it works well on before so finding a dye made for polyester fabric would be another thing to look into. Dye sublimation will not work very well or at all with Cotton . So checking to make sure that they type of dye your using will work with polyester is another thing that could help you have a better result. I've looked into dyeing plastics and I remember that plastic with a high amount of nylon accepted dye well , and that the colors you started with would affect what you ended up with. If you have black gear , dyeing it will not be an option , maybe you could get it to have slight tint . Post some photos of what you do or coe back and let us know if it ends up working or not working. I would test it on some old gear or get some closeout gear to test on. And Fabric softener can cause problems if you have used it on an item that you are testing the process on. So if you use some used stuff make sure to give it a wash . And then when you wash it he first time , you might end up with some of the dye bleeding out into the wash.. Again , I do not have any experience with using fabric dye , so some of what I wrote may not apply. I am basing my post on what I know about sublimation and other forms of adding image and color to clothing.

You would love my mother. Her grandkids call her "Grammar Donna". I think if you met me in person you would see that this is also how I talk, just keep talking. I wish I was good at everything. I type enough that I really should learn how to write better. But I just try and add some of my experience when I am posting , and just let it flow from my brain through my fingers and almost never proofread anything before hitting enter.I realize that my info could be more useful if I was better at writing. But I make a living at making stuff look cool , and not smacking the keys on here and with very little time to remember the english classes I hated as a kid. I will mostlikley continue to post painful runon, poorly punctuated posts. I'm always just trying to focus on getting details in to what I write and avoid people assuming the wrong thing about something I wrote. And then just smack away until I either get distracted by a customer coming in or I finish my thoughts. I can totally understand you not wanting to read my ramblings. Whenever I have to look back through my texts I vow to stop writing such long messages. But then find myself sucked back into the 5-xL length ramblings I tend to write. Thanks for the input.

If I was learning to write, I would have chosen a different thread.

You gave information.

I agree. It's almost as frustrating as no capitals.

I was wondering if I was missing the sarcasm ,or if they were really complaining and then doing what they were complaining about. I've been reading and looking at this site for a very long time, so I knew there would be people that were out to argue and or pick apart posts. I was surprised it took as long as it did for somebody to complain about my extra long posts. I'm looking forward to many more years of adding my input on here and hopefully I'm able to help a few people here and there and add some miles to my keyboard.
