When I attended the sd sx this year I really wanted to buy an rv2 shirt, when I got to the t-shirt stand and looked at them, they're super cheap. They don't have their sponsors or anything on them just says villopoto 2. It would be so awesome if the teams would make their own shirts ala NASCAR. I think they'd actually have some quality and an actuaul representation of the rider and team in a 1st class sort of way, that I don't feel is being achieved right now

As it stands now, teams and riders can work through the existing vendors, which are Gear Racewear/Moto-Tees and DFY, just as they do through the promoters in Supercross to sell through their vendors at the stadiums.

We also tried to use the NASCAR model, which is to charge teams to sell, but that didn't work out for the teams or the promoters. We have been talking to Mitch, Coy, Ryan Clark and others about how to proceed.

Why do you ask? Can I help you get a certain team shirt?

"Open pits" like Glen Helen and I believe Washougal had this year, which was not to charge anything to fans and let them in there from 8 until noon at least, and then clear them when it's time to go racing -- pretty much exactly like Supercross does it, only different hours.

We would also like to form a plan to let the teams have displays and maybe even some vending for their sponsors -- we just got a real late start on the concept this year and had some other deals in place that we inherited with the contract.

That's why I check in on these topics and threads from time to time: The input is valuable, and you never know when the next good idea may pop up.

I like the idea of being able to go to a privateers trailer or pick up truck and buying a shirt.

I won't buy from a large vendor, but I will buy from the little guy.

You can get a chance to offer kid words and support direct to a privateer or even a higher ranking guy.

Can privateers pay someone to sell parking lot T shirts?

I recently went to a Vans warped tour festival. It had a lot of young up and coming bands that were able to have small booths to promote themselves along with their CD. shirts Etc. They looked like they were manned by friends, family, groupies whatever but It really added to the overall festival atmosphere. I couldn't help thinking this is exactly what the privateers need to help promote their sponsors and maybe put a few bucks in their pockets.

Kinda OT but...they had a show on CNBC about the money and NASCAR, the year Dale Jr. signed with Amp energy they sold $750mil. worth of Dale Jr merchandise.

yeah and it'd be sweet to have a team shirt you can buy at the autograph sessions too like instead of bringing a random shirt or jersey you can get a Honda Red Bull racing team shirt with all the sponsors then have all the riders sign it for you, I think it'd be a cool idea for sure.

I think scottie hit it. The key is not the sales at the track, but availability at a mainstream type store or major online type outlet. The last trick will be to make it affordable enough to buy.

If being MX Sports Pro Racing Director of Operations while also owning the t-shirt company that happens to be the ONLY people allowed to sell t-shirts & other merchandise at a motocross national isn't a conflict of interest, I don't know what is.

Nascar and even WoO are much larger markets thats why it works there...

I just don't see it being profitable for a team and or rider to have his own merch trailer or what not at the races...
