Ya why let the potential for massive swelling in the scrotum keep you from a championship. Hey just tape an aspirin to it and get back in the game pansy.

This is in moto because casts are a part of our sport, and I'd bet most riders here have worn one (or more). These things are antiquated and low-tech. They limit ventilation and exposure to light, both of which aid in recovery time. They are a great catalyst to bacteria growth, which increases recovery time. I'm stuck wearing a cast that covers my hand and half of my arm for two broken fingers. A nice aluminum brace designed to immobilize the injury but minimize area coverage would be awesome. Anyone know if they make something like that?

I never understood why the hair on your arms grow 3 inches inside a cast and your skin turns to scales? I always hated that.

I remember one time when I had a cast on my arm and went on vacation to the beach. I had this great idea of tying a bag around it and go boogie boarding. First trip under water and the bag flew off. Talk about a stinky ass cast. On the way home, my Dad couldn't take it anymore and pulled along the side of the road and cut it off. LOL

One time I got my cast off on a Wed. and had a race weekend coming up. Knowing how weak my arm would be fresh out of a cast, I kept the cast and taped it back on so I could race. It actually worked really well.

Sorry had to change the subject. That pic made my stomach hurt.

not that it's worth keeping this thread alive cause those pics are !

but external fixators are way better than a cast (if the injury is bad enough).
I've had 10+ broken bones and only one cast. F casts.

I heard a comedian say that if he got his hand to fall asleep, it'd be like getting a hand job from a stranger.

Anyway, back on topic...I'm gonna call the doc tomorrow and see if I can get this cast changed out for a splint. It's getting moldy in there! Sick

Ya pin tract infections are so cool particularly if you can get the infection to infiltrate the bone!

You just described half the reason why I haven't casted my fractured wrist.

My Doc made me one out of Teflon a few years ago. It was padded in side and you just put the bottom and top on, then wrapped it. The sleeve with the aluminum plate was tried first, but one of the seams rubbed on a pin an drove me crazy. The removable Teflon one worked great, well as great as a cast can be. This was for a shattered wrist, 8 breaks.

$$$..... "Plaster" is waaaay cheaper and for the most part very effective.
I believe I said that ( Tongue ), but if someone is paying, why not have the option for a lightweight, breathable alternative?

I don't know man, my external fixator was hell. I had 2 screws in my shin 12" above my ankle, 1 long rod through my heal , 2 screws behind my big toe, and 1 behind my pinky toe.

That thing was so big and had so many things to get snagged I would constantly hit something or get it caught on something while moving around in my wheelchair.

After my 2nd surgery Dr put an internal solid chain on the pinky toe side with 9 screws which helped a lot. (Until one of the screws broke, and partially tore a tendon.)
Except I still had to keep the rod through my heal.

But, at the same time I have to agree with you, when I had my bone graph on my wrist, I had a cast from shoulder middle knuckle. And that was NO fun. haha
I guess they all just suck hard!! LOL

That's what I thought after a coworker lost his leg to an infection: These external fixators look like bacteria highways.
