What break in oil are you guys using?

I just rebuilt my Sxf motor and used a non synthentic10-50, but not "break in oil". The bike runs well, I have an hour on it now, but am seeing some white smoke from the head breather hose and thinking the rings didn't seal properly.

I had always thought that the rings should seat within the first heat cycle or 2. Should I not be concerned that there is an hour of run time on it and they don't seem to be seated yet?

You need to run that thing hard to make the rings seat.

I have NO IDEA if this will work, but what I am trying to do is "recover" some engines that were broken in lightly that also did not get perfect ring seal.

My plan is this:

(1) Run a fresh tank of fuel, with a heavy dosage of Yamaha Ring Free Plus (as a way to break any ring glaze that has developed and is preventing proper ring seating):
https://www.shopyamaha.com/product/details/ring-free-plus?ls=yamaha-mot…

(2) When running this fuel mix, load the engine hard like I normally would have during a proper break-in

Again, I could be a quack, but it's what I am going to try.

(and FWIW, I think I've already noticed power improvement in 1 bike I started running it in)

That Yamalube stuff is the real deal, we used it a ton when I worked at a shop.

I will try it and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion!

I just added some RIng Free Plus to my gas and put on another hour. The bike runs great, no issues, but still white "smoke" coming out of the breather off the head. No oil coming out of the breather, and no smoke from exhaust either.

It seemed like it was running a bit hot, but not so hot that I had any coolant overflow.

Maybe I am worried about nothing? I have read that it takes a couple of hours for the water vapor to completely leave the motor, but I live in the desert? Valve seal?

How much assembly lube did you use?
How many hrs before rebuild?

I used a light amount of motor oil for assembly.

Its a newly rebuilt bottom end that about 50 hours and the top end which is modded for 270 jug/piston has about 100 total hours.
