So I finally got a chance to rewatch Washougal, and I still can't get over how fast Tomac and Sexton were riding. In the interviews, I think it was Weege who said to Sexton that this was the 2nd greatest race at Washougal since RC/Bubba. I disagree, Tomac and Sexton put in a more dominant performance than those two did. Check out the stats.
- Tomac and Sexton had the SAME EXACT fastest lap in Moto 1: 2:12.953
- The next fastest was over 2 seconds slower: Anderson at 2:15.141
- Despite crashing and losing about 15 seconds on lap 13, Tomac and Sexton averaged 3 seconds a lap faster than 3rd place Anderson (without the crash it would've been about 4 sec/lap
- At the end of the race, despite the crash, Sexton had a 43 second gap back to 3rd!
That last point is crazy. This may not sound like much but keep in mind, they crashed on lap 13. When they got up, their lead went from about 30 down to 15 seconds. In 3 laps they put about 30 seconds on Anderson! And JA wasn't mailing it in, he had Roczen right behind him.
Comparing this performance to the 2006 Washougal 450 Moto 1 battle, it's clear that this current battle is right up there with the RC vs. JS days:
- The gap between the leading 2 and 3rd was almost the exact same (43 vs 48 sec), and RC/JS didn't crash
- The RC's fastest lap was only 1 sec faster than 3rd place Reed
Regardless of whether you believe this battle is better than RC vs JS or not, you have to admit that these boys are putting in a heck of a battle. We're witnessing a historic run to the championship here. Can we please stop worrying about the #Kardeegans and appreciate what's happening where it matters?

All of them are absolute beasts in their own way but that's the way I would categorise them all together. This year has certainly been one for the ages, both in 250s and 450s! Just give us 1 more season Eli, that way whoever comes off 2nd best this year can have 1 more shot at redemption at the other next year
And with due respect to Eli and Chase, I'm not sure we get to see two timeless greats go at it like RC and Stew did again. But time will tell.
