TM MX 112 Supermini power/dyno

I was wondering if anyone has experience with the TM 112 supermini and knows how it compares to a KTM family supermini build. I just read that the KX112 has less bottom end and 1.5hp less peak HP than a stock KTM 105 kit. I did my own 112 build on a KTM and the power difference between that and a stock 105 felt pretty big and I also have a race spec Lynk's build that is even better. But the issue is that in order to do that requires a minimum of $2000 in parts (105 kit, crank, head insert or cylinder spacer) and an engine builder will charge $3500.

Never seen power charts on the TM, but when I've seen them race in person they look fast and sound almost like a 125.

That being said, is your rider a Top-20 contender at LL's? Why so interested in making max power? I ask because I have never seen the difference between a stock 105 kit and a 112 Lynks motor be the difference. It has always come down to the rider in races I've seen. I've seen stock 105 motors pull holeshots in front of built 112's. I've also seen guys dump thousands into Lynks, etc but then they are not too great on jetting so they are not getting the full potential out of it when the jetting is not spot on. And the rebuild hours/dollars on these high falutin 112's is crazy compared to a 105 kit. but, if your guy is top-20's at LL's, then I guess you need every HP.

I totally get you on the point that few riders are able to utilize the full power of a motor vs just a stock 105 kit. I can say from experience that the power difference between the stock 105 and a Lynk's 112 feels pretty big. For our situation, my daughter is 12 and 5'7" and 130lbs - which is quite a bit bigger than most kids on a supermini and while on the track things like corner entrance speed are more critical than HP, on the start HP is king.

Also, along your point of maintenance fees, if a stock TM 112 has more HP than a stock 105 and has reasonable piston intervals - it would be a great change.

I’d email or call Derek Harris at hp bikes about that. He’s a tm dealer and builds a lot of superminis.

Awesome, thanks man! I actually talked to him and he's who got my own supermini build running with a head insert designed to accommodate the extra stroke.
