Hi !

Actually, I'll rebuild Kawasaki 1989 KX125.
Why ? Because I'm born in 1988 and I think it's funny to rebuild a bike which has my age.
I want to save OEM style and modernize the visual aspect and parts.
Add titanium bolts + carbon parts + Pro Circuit parts especially.

The result with a quick Photoshop could be like this :

Actually I got the ignition cover

Also I'll receive in few days the PC 304 silencer like this

It's very hard to find NOS PC parts. So if you can help me to find :
- PC rear brake reservoir (PN : RBR010)
- PC clutch perch (PN : CP-KX) => I found it but it's CP-RM reference (for Suzuki RM)
- PC bar clamp (PN : BCKX93125)
- PC footpegs titanium or classic
- PC axle blocks (PN : KAB99)
- PC pull rods (PN : KPR93125)

For some parts I haven't part number because in 1989 the part doesn't exist.
But a few are same in 1990/1992 and I'll adapt.

Thanks !

Nice idea..... I'm doing something similar with an 89 KX 125 but I have got a lot of the Orange plastic so I'm thinking a TUF Racing theme for mine..... I started a thread on here a couple of months back but I have been to busy to touch the 125 so I've not updated in a while.... Keep us posted on this build.

PC have the pull rods and reservoir for sale on their website. What is the width from bolt to bolt on bar mount for that year?

Thank you @Sidecar. Nice idea too because it's not common. Good luck with your project.
No problem I'll post pictures.

For reservoir on their website I'm ok but I live in France and Pro Circuit does not delivery...

For pull rod 123MM KX125/250 97-01 in clearance corner I'm not sure because I don't know the spacing length of OEM 1989 pull rods. I think it would be better put on my bike KX125/250 1993/1996...

Generally and normally Pro Circuit removes 1mm and more from original pull rod.

Someone has spacing length and thickness of 1988 kx125 OEM pull rod ?
Because my bike is not in my garage.

Not sure Pro Circuit made a lot of those parts for the 88-89 kx"s. You would be lucky to find a pipe & silencer. These bikes had pretty good suspension stock, springs rates for your weight would be a good starting point. A stock Yamaha Ti spring fits right onto the shock shock Assy. You can make later model kx for pegs work, should be able to find Pro circuit pegs as I did for my 250, the ones I used were off a 97 kx, minor grinding & they fit nice. Chassis wise the kx 500 shares a lot of parts with the 88&89 kx"s, frames were basically the same up until the big KX"s demise. I fitted a set of KX 500 Works Connection frame guards to my 89 250, with very minor grinding to the left side guard to clear the footpeg brct. Rt side bolted right up. Good luck & keep us updated with photos!

Thank you for the informations !
I take a lot of time to rebuild this one because I'm not all the time at my home and I rebuild 2 other bikes (KX125 1981 and KLR650) at the same time.
But as soon as I can I'll post some pictures Smile

In reading your question again, I realized that my answer does not correspond at all to what you asked me.
Excuse me. So the width from bolt to bolt on bar mount for that year is 90mm.
Have you got a PC bar mount that correspond to this ?

Great idea to build a bike the same age! I would have to build a 1976... Uhhhh, no thanks! :D

I noticed your Pro Circuit ignition cover is for a 92-99. Will you be swapping the engine or something to make it fit???

Haha ! If you like Kawasaki the bike in 1976 was beautiful for me.
And if you find one you will be lucky ! :D

About PC ignition cover the five drillings are at the same place Smile

You are right ! The silencer is not the right shape...
The silencer I received is not the same like I post at the beginning post.

I think I'll change for the silencer with the flat end Wink

Hey, i dont know if any of you are interested but if you need some parts i have a whole kx 125 1989 in parts, most of them in perfect/ good condition. Me and my granda started restoring his old KX 125 '79 and it went hella good! Bike runs and rips the dirt. We tried it again with a kx from '89 but the owners before is completely destroyed it, they didnt do any maintenance. We cleaned and fixed all parts but putting it back together was hopeless. Whole frame was bended, rear spring completely gone and all rubbers are destroyed. And bcus we cant find any new parts for it we are now selling all the good parts! So lmk i can ship it over! (Im from the Netherlands)

Black die, acetone, water. Hear in a pan. There's a tutorial on YouTube for it

Those 88-89 kx125s were great 125s! Very easy to ride low to midrange for a 125. They were still fast they just seemed to make more torque than some other 125s. Excellent choice!

Yuck!Sick My advice to you is to keep all of the stock plastics and hardware. If you tank out like the rest of merica, you can re-coup some money by returning it to its former glory. The one on the left is our favorite. fjb
