Lightning drove for the Blackmore company hauling heavy equipment before joining Mitch Payton’s Pro Circuit race team in 1993. After driving the PC transporter for a couple years he drove for DC Sports, Robbie Maddison, Mike Metzger, Shaun Palmer and others. His sister is Launi DiMaggio, Jeff Emig’s long-time girlfriend, and they’ve been a part of the Southern California Moto community for a long time. He passed away last night due to health issues.

RIP Rick, now you can put that Grey Ghost into the wind and into the clouds. A truckers life is pretty brutal. You hv to take a break and get healthy every few years. Try to eat healthy then, even tho you get sick. Because your body is used to food on the run. I took a few weeks off last April, the most I ever weighed 184, never been above 172. In 4 weeks I gain 4 lbs of muscle on each leg, rested my upper body. Went from 194 to 165, pumped up muscle and inflammation. Had a psa blood test, it showed damage to all internal organs. Was doing railyard Chicago job then, short runs to wi., much easier on your body. Even tho you get micro impacts constantly. Liquid haz mat in a reefer is stupid dangerous, totes leaking for 4 days. I got gassed a few times.

I'm always late, but I would like to extend my condolences to Rick's family.

I went to school with Rick in Murietta elementary school.
We used to ride our XR75's on the track on the Blackmore land which sits right next to the 15 freeway.

Rick, Jeff, Mitch Wellander and I would go tear it up on the track at Blackmore's every chance we got.
