IDK, if my son wants to go to say hello to all his friends he grew up racing maybe I will go. But I just cant stand straining to see who is who from so far away from the action.

I am still going but since the southeast always gets Daytona, I kind of liked ATL being in a stadium. Especially that year (or two?) that it was at the new Mercedes dome. This year there is no nashville, no orlando, basically making st louis the closest indoor stop for the southeast, which is lame. Plus that new dome is sick, padded seats and what has to be the lowest food/drink prices of any stadium in the country. I imagine it will always be at the speedway going forward though since its so much cheaper than the dome for feld.
There is pros and cons to speedway vs indoor but guess the southeast fans have no choice. Outdoor (mx) is kind of a lame situation too since they don't go to muddy creek anymore. We either get a sand track in FL in the absolute dead of summer or drive all the way to PA or MD. It is all good though, beggars can't be choosers. I'll still go.

I can do an outdoor stadium, I just can't stand on my feet for hours on end that I attend these things. My lower back and knees are growing more tired each year, along with my eyesight. But, I guess they don't put these races on for us older vet guys, now do they.

AMS (then AIR, Atlanta international raceway) hosted big events for years. If i remember right, the last one was a D-9 series race at the end of 1982.

After hosting mx events, including i believe, some trans ama events, road atlanta went about 10 years with no mx events.

It was opened back up in the mid 90's for a local series that raced on Saturdays and had decent turn outs. I think they did Saturdays because the county had restrictions on the number of Sundays they could run events.

Those races ceased in in early 00's.

With the consolidation of track ownership under a company that has gone through lawsuits from mx facilities on their properties, I doubt it will ever come back to Ams except for one off special events like an amateur day that can afford much higher insurance coverage.
I’m pretty sure AIR hosted an MX national way back in the day….78 and 79

HaHa.. you are closer than me buddy!! However,, I ride my mtn bike twice a week, and do BJJ twice a week so this might attribute to my breaking down!

The Atlanta Speedway races last year were by far the best tracks, racing, and overall event production we've seen in quite some time.

I love the speedway tracks, but I'm curious. I used to go to SX every year at the Georgia dome. What is the viewing like at AMS?

It’s f’ing huge. If you’re on either end, you’ll hardly hear the motors and won’t see squat when they’re on the other end of the track. Spend the money for a center ticket, and you’ll see ok, but it’s not near as enjoyable as the Dome or Benz imo.

Middle seats are def the way to go. Getting in & out of the pits was a nightmare last year because they had everyone funnel in/out a tunnel under the racetrack

I forgot about the tunnel. Yea that was miserable. I’m going to give the speedway another go this year, but this may be it. I think I’ll start traveling to a race or two from now on. I’ve always wanted to try other venues, and getting away from AMS sounds like as good a reason as any

Since it was closest to us in NC we went to the Atlanta stadium races and now have went to two of the Atlanta Speedway races, the first time we got pretty good seats somewhere in the middle but last year we got the $20 trackside and it was 10x better. You see a small section of track but they had a huge screen in front of us and you were right in the action. It was just some metal barriers setup against the track, you walked down and onto the track from the normal seats. Ended up being only like one line of people so everyone was on the gate not packed at all. 

Some blurry screen grabs off videos I had so you can get a idea of what the views were like. We stayed at a hotel pretty close I think a La Quinta chatted with Justin Cooper a bit in the lobby, was certainly much better than staying in an Atlanta hotel. 

We are skipping altanta this year and going to the Zmax SMX round since its only 45 minutes away.
