02 Xr200 project won’t go into gear

So I bought a 2002 xr200 that had been sitting under some lady’s porch for a few years for 100$, took it home cleaned carb new fuel new oil and fired it up it runs like a top. Unfortunately the bike won’t go into gear. I did some research and found that it’s common for the XR200s to go through the shift cam and the shift plate so I pulled the right side clutch cover and replaced both put it all back together and it still won’t go into gear.. it will click like it’s going into and through the gears but will not move.. any help is appreciated thank you.

While you weee in there replacing the parts, did you rotate the shift cam and “bench shift” it? I had a similar issue on a 200x (uses the same shift mechanism). If you did be home shift it and all was ok, that would mean the issue was with the external shift mechanism.

Can you explain what bench shifting would be? When I had the clutch cover over and the clutch out I did shift through the gears using the shifter and it clicks and rotates the shift cam but even when it’s all back together it feels like
It’s clicking through the gears I’m just getting no movement

Shift forks were a problem with those engines.
