Which is effectively what Eli is doing. If he didnt abuse the clutch and monitored his speed with the throttle instead, the bike wouldn't get so hot.

Eli can ride exactly how he wants all the time Yamaha are confident they can keep the bike running.
If things escalate and the risk of DNF's are real, then it is likely the team would ask him to dial it back a notch. But like all things, constant development should see the problem get better with time.
You're right, heavy use of the clutch contributes to heat build up. But that's not what was going on with Tomac's bike on Saturday night.

It would be nice if the professional commentators would correctly identify it as steam or smoke.

They either don't know, think it's too complicated for the audience, or are trying to create drama.

Seriously though, who knows if it would have made another lap. He was taking a heck of a chance… if it had grenaded on a jump face, it could have ended his season. Second place would have looked good at that point.

That being said, if I were Eli, I’d have probably done the same thing, and I’m glad he got the record. He deserved it with that ride.

Also, it’s probably not a popular opinion, but I could do without all of the sand sections. I don’t think they add anything to the racing, and have caused most of the problems this year.

I think they should do an entire track out of sand…that same deep stuff they had in the sand section at Daytona…the entire track.

And then bring over Herlings and give him a supercross win to add to his resume….

I actually would prefer that than to just have a sand section randomly placed on a “Normal” supercross track.
