Edited Date/Time 2/17/2022 12:46pm
Typical weekend at Helvetia
Saturday: Motorhomes..Riders ,families & friends coming in around 2:00...setting up camp, pitching tents..Kids head for the pool, tuning bikes, grilling burgers, benchracing,,kicken back...lotsa people having fun . Art & I out throwing tires..working the track....Charlie Murch in his water truck. Later start a fire....Have a beer!!!

Sunday:0630 Riders lined up at front gate clear out to the highway... We expect around 300 riders today....Sign up at 0700....Practice at 0730.....Chaos as always!!! Glad when thats over with nobody hurt. !st race blasts off at 0900,usually a full gate of minis.Parents lining track, cheering for their favorites.
Who remembers Little Ronnie on the checkered flag, Rich Fern W/ Parts in the Pits, And the National Motorcycle Patrol Lookjing after the Kids
After a full, RAD day of good racing we wrap it up just before dark[hopefully]....We used to joke that the open novices ,usually the last moto, needed headlights
About 1/3 of the sportsmen would get a trophy...and the Pros got paid....Every one has had a good time, These Were the Golden Days of Motocross!!!!

Hey Fred... Didn't you tell me the yellow water was caused by high sulpher content as a result of Parts In The Pits moto-guru Rich Fern washing his argyle socks out in the pool.

You forgot to mention the old bed mattress wired to the tree in the first turn or the rubber band start that always got caught on your handlebar and held half the field back while the other half headed into turn one. Or the mud on rainy days that was slicker than snot on glass and grooves so deep you'd bang your knees when you leaned into the turns. I won't even try to describe the out houses...

Hey Bobby....Yeah Great times...Nice of you to ask about My wife, Mary. Unfortunately i lost her to Cancer 5 years. She was my buddy, partner, Best friend, and the Love of my life. And she loved all you guys....Called you " My Boys" . She was a big part of running all those races efficiently. Take care...Fred

Now that track was fun, racing through the trees, the long back straight away coming out of the trees, coming into the tight turns by the start area, a lot of really fast guy's raced there. The over night camping. The swimming pool , and let's not forget about the " streakers". Crazy boys riding there bikes nude. Budweiser beer, great looking pit tootsies. Now that was fun.

Hey there. One of the parks I never made it to back in the day was Helvetia, sad to say. I know the farmers all around the location though. I just made a couple of calls, everything, including the pool, is still there. They used to host concerts there until too many neighbors complained about the noise. The property was sold and one of the newer family members, a young girl drowned in the pool. Since then, they have just kept it all closed up.
